Because sleeping with their children was part of bible indoctrination. How else would Noah's family repopulate the earth? Not very pleasant but it doesn't mention a lot of things. How about "thou shall not take another as thins slave"?sounds good to us but apparently not to god.

Yeah. They aren't very clear on that. Hence it was legal to marry 10-12 year old girls in the USA until relatively recently...

Gotta love those people who claim to know 'God's Mind' and say that 'God thought people had morals' so he chose not to instruct regarding certain morals...

Also, people here claim to know the 'child molestation index' from 2000 years ago.

I think you'll find that little girls had hardly any rights 2000 years ago in the Middle East, and they were pretty much viewed only as as 'marriage material' and baby-carriers at as young as 9-10 years old. I don't think anyone here arguing FOR the Bible in this instance is dealing with a full deck of facts so they pick stuff out of the air...

I can't even begin to be bothered to wrap my head around the holes in these 'arguments'...

One of the limitations of a written code is that people are always coming up with new ways to harm others.

The New Covenant covers everything by addressing the heart and intent.

So the ten are irrelevant.

that's been re-written. Jesus did it while He suggested there are 2 commandments to stay with, in Matthew 22, are to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your ideas. that's the 1st and maximum appropriate commandment. And the 2d is like it:'Love your neighbor as your self'

It probably wasn't a practice back then and too horrible to mention. If a person obeyed the ten commandments, he would never think of molesting a child.

There are 613 laws in Scripture....ALL written by the Lord Himself (including the 10 commandments)
Child molestation as dead wrong is pretty obvious, don't you think?

I think that some of the evils of our modern world could not even be imagined by people in the past.

The Bible encourages married couples to enjoy their sexual intimacy. When you can easily marry and men could have several wives -- why would such sick thoughts even occur to these people.

The ancient Israelites were not perfect but even in their language they refrained from cursing and foul language since it was a sin. Thus today's mega-cities where people can isolate themselves and view pornographic material feeding sick desires did not exist.

When the Bible was written unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, molestation was not as prevalent as it is today. So it was not included in the Bible. However, on the other side of that answer is the fact that there was no 24 hour news networks, special reports, newpapers, news magizines, and internet back then to spread the word of what was happening to children. So the real reason is I have no idea.

Odd that there's no "Thou shalt not rape" at all in there. And covetting thy neighbour's wife doesn't not cover having your way with the single girl down the street I'm afraid.

I'd imagine the main reason was that peoples' rights weren't considered that much back in those days, children included.

It's in there.
It's under the commandment about " Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's a$$."
