I guess not, because the only time I ever did was at the dinner table and it was totally an accident. It stopped conversation and everyone stared at me. Finally my brother in law laughed , everybody grinned, and it was forgotten.

Depends on how your mother-in-law is. My parents are very easy going and my husband does it sometimes. They think it's gross but laugh at him all the time.
