Look for your RESTORE disk. If you find it, see if that technician would make it right by reinstalling from your LEGAL copy.

You see, if the guy found that you did not have the restore disk; he should have told you that you would have to BUY IT again. If he sold you a new copy that turned out to be PIRATED, then he's dead wrong. You can file a complaint against him at http://www.bbb.org He would have to answer to EVERYBODY when the complain appears on-line for all to see.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

if you have the original xp disks, then:
1. download ie7 and save as a file
2. un install windows ie7 from the add remove programs
3. reinstall xp from the disks and when asked to put in the original key
4. you may have to boot a couple times
5. re install ie7 from the file
6. perform a windows update and validate xp.

you will not lose any files or folders including favourites and programs

Contact the technician and ask them to correct the issue, or you will report them to Microsoft. The installing of piracted software is a serious issue, as Microsoft could decide to sue YOU for having it. Plus, it prevents you from being able to get updates and security patches that your PC needs to keep running properly.

If they do not resolve the issue, report them to Microsoft.

I'm sure Microsoft would like to know if an IT company is installing pirated or non-genuine copies of its operating systems and probably making money off of it.
I would report the incident here:
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/

maybe they will throw you a legit license for reporting it.

If your computer came with XP, you should have the real serial number (maybe its attached to your PC?), then try this:

http://www.petri.co.il/change_the_serial_in_windows_xp.htm

(it's a little outdated, but only try the Activation method.
