If you can't actually see the fleas then look for areas of little black grainy things next to the skin. It looks like ground pepper or just grit. It's actually little specks of dried cat blood and flea poop.

The fur won't really look much different to normal unless the cat is allergic to fleas, or had a huge number of fleas for a long time, so maybe your cat doesn't have any!
If you part the fur at the back of the neck, along the spine and base of the tail, and see tiny black or brown specks, then that is flea dirt, the actual fleas move real fast and are hard to catch.
I would think that it would be easy to spot flea dirt on a white cat, and if you find any then you need to treat the cat, his bed and surroundiing carpets, soft furnishings etc You can get stuff from any vet or pet shop near to you.

It might look absolutely normal! It's only if they have a flea allergy that their fur starts to come out.

You'll only easily see the actual fleas if the infestation is quite bad. You're more likely to see the flea dirts (poos), which should be easy to spot on a white cat! Just have a rummage through her fur, they look like black specks, kind of comma shaped, and they turn red when wetted. Here's a pic of flea dirts on a dog:

If you do discover your cat has fleas, stay away from pet store products because they don't work. Only use veterinary stuff!

Hi,When I got my kitten in april I found the best method was combing him with a cat flea comb. Fleas tend to congregate at the back of the cat near the bum and look under the tail, you will see them moving if they are there. When you have done a couple of stroke with the comb rub it into a damp kitchen towel / tissue,if you see black specks that turn pinky red then it's blood from the fleas(it's there poo). If it doesn't change colour it's just dirt. Best flea treatment is frontline, vets recommend it,you can buy it from any vets over the counter.I have been using this on my kitten for 5 months now and since then he has not has a single flea on him.Good luck.

Fleas in many cases cling out on a cat or canine abdomen between their returned legs and on the backside of their tail. i might look in those areas for fleas and their droppings. The little black spots you're seeing on your mattress have been in all probability flea droppings. Get some Frontlline Plus, which will defend any fleas on her and kill any infant fleas that are up and coming. you will could de-flea your place too. So vacuum somewhat properly and right now throw away the vacuum bag and then vacuum returned. you're able to could spray flea killer around the living house into the carpet and wash the cats bedding in warm water to kill any ultimate fleas. look at your ankles and ft, do you spot small purple dots? in case you do, you additionally are being bit. Fleas want canine or cats, yet will munch on a human in the event that they might't discover the canine or cat.

The cats fur will look the same. When we recently got our kitten, he was heavily infested and we could see the fleas walking on him because he was so small. But look for little black specks when you part his hair. Also check where he lays, they may fall off then too.

look for flea dirt. the fleas droppings. They look like little bits of sticky tarry mud.

If your cat is scratching or licking a lot it could be that the fleas have hatched and if you look closely you may see one shoot past. If they haven't done the full life cycle yet, it may just be a flea who is laying eggs and they haven't hatched yet, so you might not see the mommy.

You can usually see small black specks (flea droppings) in the fur, especially around the back of the neck.
P.S. You don't often see the fleas - they are really sneaky little things - and amazingly, if you manage to catch one, very difficult to kill - you can squash them flat and they'll survive. Best way to catch them is on a bar of squidgy soap.

try comping her with a flea comb on a white surface.if u found black specks put a drop of water on them.if they turned red, then this is dried blood so ur cat has fleas and this is their feces. apply flea prevention method then or take her to the vet.

If they have fleas, you will be able to see little black or brown bugs crawling through their fur. You also will see little black specks. That's flea poop.
