I've always lived in Texas so I'm a little biased, but what I saw of Florida, you'd fit in with Texans much more better. We drink, we fight, we know how to have a good time and people don't come to our state to retire. (which is what Florida is known for). Texas is known around the world for it's ruggedness and friendliness.
Florida literally hit by hurricane's some 10 times more than Texas. Texas has a larger Variety of Climates, Tropical, to arid, to Grassy Planes, to Forrest and Hills. Some places spend months above 100 degrees F. and some places get snowed under.
I like visiting other places in America, but I'm always glad to come home to Texas

I think Texas is better. I've lived in T. most of my life. I only lived in Florida for a summer - it was so hot and humid I thought I would die!!!! Texas is hot and we do have a tornado season, but we also have a whole lot of everything else too!! We have big and small cities, good universities, many good industries and great climate. We're so large you can have different climate experiences from north to south! We also are a friendly place, with our southern influence. Because we're so big we also have some metro areas where we have a huge diverse population. Yes, we have great BBQ to eat, but also we have great Mexican food!
I grew up in San Antonio. It has a large Hispanic population, mild winters and hot, humid summers. I've lived up close to Dallas for the last 23 years and we have everything up here. Theatre, Arts, University, Sports, and a very diverse population. You'd fit in just great!
Anyway, I'm tired of raving about Texas so I'll quit now. Besides, I'd like to go to Scotland!!! At least to visit. A good part of my ancestors came from Scotland and I've always wished I could visit, but my money's been to tight for a holiday there. Good luck to you!
Truthfully, there are good qualities to Florida, compared to Scotland's climate it's delightfully warm. They do have some horrendous years with hurricanes, but you don't need to live right on the coast. But, Florida can be very expensive to live in because so much of it caters to tourists.
Bottom line, I'd do a lot of web research about both states for comparisons, especially concerning jobs and industries.

Florida has a nice warm beach, and hurricanes.
If you choose Texas, don't live in the big cities. Move to a small town or get a house out in the country.

I have not lived in either, but I have visited both several times. I like Texas much better. People are more friendly, although hot, not humid like florida.

Open spaces: texas! style, a li'l flambuoyance: florida! both get warm in the warm season, texas very warm! in the final analysis, if money is no problem, florida might have the edge!
