No but I have aways wanted to try it, when I was in the Navy I used to do some snorkeling for shells, and I thought this was cool. I live in a state that is land locked now, and it's been many years since I was in the Navy, but I have heard there are diving clubs the frequent some lakes in the state.

I have been a certified diver since I was 14 (I'm in my early 40's now). It is one of the most amazing sports you can do. Basically you are a stranger in someone else world and you get to observe life that is very different from ours. We used to make it a habit to vacation in scuba oriented places. I've visited the following already: Cayman, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Australia, Tahiti, Easter Island, Red Sea, Turkey, Chile, Brazil, among others.

Its been some time since I've scubaed but soon I will pick it up again. My kids are getting older and they are dieing to start.

All places have there uniqueness about them but I think I would visit Honduras (Utila and Roatan island) again. The diving is fabulous and you cant beat the prices... Our wish list destination is the Maldives... Someday Ill make it out there..

Good luck

I've been PADI Certified for about 20 years now..
Best most vivid memory I have was a trip to dive the Great Barrier Reef in Australia with a group of friends back in 1998. We were in about 50 feet of water right beside the Reef and I was taking pictures of the others with an underwater camera.Without warning everybody started for the surface in a hurry and blew air thru their regulators as a signal that something was wrong. I had no idea what was up until I was literally engulfed in a large dark shadow, and body slammed from behind...

Once I got over the inital shock I looked and swimming off to my right was a 14-16ft Great White Shark. It was a female and she had "bumped" me as a sign I wasn't welcome in the area. To put it bluntly I got the he** out of Dodge as quickly but smoothly as I could. She wasn't hungry obviously as she could have literally bit me in two scuba tanks and all......The slam took the paint off of my scuba tank, an area about 18" long and 6" wide and tore my wet suit shoulder and sleeve wide open.Very humbling experience, but hasn't stopped me from going back in the water there. I've been back to Australia twice since then.......
