This is from Wikipedia and the link is below:

Insufficient fiber in the diet can complicate defecation.[10] Low-fiber feces are dehydrated and hardened, making them difficult to evacuate -- defining constipation[10] and possibly leading to development of hemorrhoids.[10]

Although many researchers believe that dietary fiber intake reduces risk of colon cancer, one study, conducted by researchers at the Harvard School of Medicine of over 88,000 women, did not show a statistically significant relationship between higher fiber consumption and lower rates of colorectal cancer or adenomas.[11]

improvements in gastrointestinal health
improvements in glucose tolerance and the insulin response
reduction of hyperlipidemia, hypertension and other coronary heart disease risk factors
reduction in the risk of developing some cancers
increased satiety and hence some degree of weight management

So the risk of eating too little fiber include:
* constipation
* hemorrhoids
* cancer (though this is debated, see above)
* hyperlipidemia (high fat levels in blood, primarily cholesterol)
* Coronary (heart) disease
* Blood sugar imbalance

Also remember that not all fiber is the same. There are different types and each has its own benefits and the lack of them would lead to different risk factors. This is also discussed in the article below.

Sounds like you may not be taking in enough water with the fiber, you need at least 2 liters of water a day(not soft drinks-water, tea and coffee are OK). Consider trying buying a few pounds of seedless grapes and eat them all in one setting(or prune juice or dried prunes). . Also, consider a tablespoon of olive oil a day. You may want to consider a enema for a few days to ease the strain, until you get regulated. If I recall, there is a new yogurt product on the market that may best useful--forgot what it is called--but it is heavily advertised on TV. Really don't know how well it works. If you still are having problems, You may need to contact a physician, you may have a blocked bowel. Wish you the best all hope all works out for you.

This is what I found on Web MD...hope it helps! What Causes Constipation? Constipation is usually caused by a disorder of bowel function rather than a structural problem. Common causes of constipation include: * Inadequate water intake. * Inadequate fiber in the diet. * A disruption of regular diet or routine; traveling. * Inadequate activity or exercise or immobility. * Eating large amounts of dairy products. * Stress. * Resisting the urge to have a bowel movement, which is sometimes the result of pain from hemorrhoids. * Overuse of laxatives (stool softeners) which, over time, weaken the bowel muscles. * Hypothyroidism. * Neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis. * Antacid medicines containing calcium or aluminum. * Medicines (especially strong pain medicines, such as narcotics, antidepressants or iron pills). * Depression. * Eating disorders. * Irritable bowel syndrome. * Pregnancy. *Age * Colon disorders What Should I Do If I am Constipated? *Get Regular...Go to the bathroom at the same time each morning. Make this your morning "habit," as colonic motor activity is highest at this time. *Drink two to four extra glasses of water a day (unless fluid restricted).Try warm liquids, especially in the morning. *Add fruits and vegetables to your diet. especially prunes (buy the baby food, I found it so much easier to digest) *Relax-Because stress can interfere with relaxation of the whole body, including the bowels, it's important to use some type of relaxation technique daily. Satish Rao, MD, PhD, FRCP, professor of medicine and director of neurogastroenterology and GI motility at the University of Iowa, finds that many patients cannot push properly because they are too rushed and stressed. "They have too little time to take care of their bodies," says Rao. *Talk to Your Doctor About Medications-Medications and laxatives can help relieve constipation, but they must be taken carefully and for short periods of time. Consult with your doctor before taking any medication.

Hemorrhoids are associated with constipation and straining at bowel movements. How to get rid of hemorrhoids https://tr.im/h3T7U
Pregnancy is also associated with hemorrhoids. These conditions lead to increased pressure within the hemorrhoidal veins that causes them to swell. Other conditions, for example chronic liver disease, may also cause increased venous pressure and may be associated with hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are very common and are estimated to occur in up to one-half of the population by age 50.
