my sister in law would cry her eyes out about a dead bird on the ground, get so attached to every animal treating it like it's a real person (worrying too much about their mental health etc.).However, she's really weird near people (even her own family)she is not sociable at all.constantly miserable, doesn't go out.I thought it may be the age(17),but I've honestly never seen anyone like that before...Is it normal?

Cheers for your answers...I don't think she has phobia.I just think she doesn't interact with people like others. For example she'd invite you to their house and she sits quitely, looking miserable. You try for conversation and she answers with one word, just to make the situation really akward.... she has no interest in her love life at all.Or she has some friends not a lot,but she doesn't share anything with them, like what's bothering her etc.So nobody knows what's wrong with her.She seems not to have a social intelligence at all.Plus she has this weird thing about cleanleness.Like my daugter can 't come near her with like mucky hands....

It is kind of unsettling to me.
We don't have animals now but when we had children we had cats and dogs.
We loved our dogs and always did the necessary things to take good care of our dogs but if any of our animals caused a disturbance to our neighbors, we found a new home for them, usually with a farmer where the animals had space to run and not be a disturbance.
To me it's a sad day when someone put a higher value to an animal than they do to a human being.
I simply don't understand where this person is coming from, unless their animal is the only thing they can depend on and can be compatible with.
If this is so they need help.
Thanks for the question.

I'd say it's fairly normal. we of all species are the most dangerous species on the planet. we singlehandedly have brought about the extinction of hundreds of others and wiped out via famine, deforestation, brought diseases upon the world's animal population which has forever changed them. we imprison them in convinient places called zoos and hunt them for their rare exotic skins & tusks. tell me, if you saw a dog/cat walking on the side of a busy road or saw a person on that same road, which would you be more concerned about? Why do you think there's more vet clinics out there than hospitals? people care for their pets and other wildlife more than they ever would a decieptful destroyer of life human. - well that's my 2 cents on the subject.

i think i have something in common with your sister. i cant have pets if in the end it has to be killed or died. even if im not really attached to them, still i would cry if i saw they died. i dont really socialize, but i know when is the right time to talk and share things with. i think i would say that we have some social anxiety but not that we are not normal.
well, sometimes i like animals better than human too.

Maybe she's just going through a phase. She may just feel depressed and not in the mood to socialise and maybe even out of place with people but she might find comfort in animals.

well, animals are not mean like people so I'd have to say it's pretty normal for some people to cling to animals while avoiding people. ANimals don't make you feel like crap and they don't hold a grudge. They love you no matter what. They are simply awesome.

People who love animals are typically very big-hearted, sensitive, caring souls.
She may just be shy or insecure around people, whereas with animals she cannot be rejected.

i wouldnt say 'normal' for a girl so young, but compared to most youngsters, who drink/smoke/have sex /and generally make a nuisance of themselves in my local park,i'd say she was alright.might just be a sensitive soul.(besides,i prefer my dog to 99% of people!)
