In World War 2, they were largely responsible for the victory in North Africa. They fought superbly on DDay. The were a good part of the beating of Germany. They also fought with distinction in the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. As an American, I am very glad they were on our side. They are a fantastic group of soldiers.

Quite a lot of things.
Killing kangaroos is one of them - artillery fire at Puckapunyal actually kills a lot of them. It's no joke - most Australian military bases are absolutely swarming with the dang things.
One apocryphal story has it that a pair of Malaysian artillery officers on exchange doing Forward Observer training saw a pack of Kangaroos at Puckapunyal and were impressed by them, only to see them blown to pieces by gunners on exercise.
PI has sand fleas, Kapooka has roo droppings littered across the grass. Of course there'll be quite a bit of resentment towards them. Enough resentment to kill a few dozen, hundred, thousand, that's all.
---
Australian soldiers aren't known for one thing in particular. Neither is any military force of the world - ask an American what makes a Marine so well known, and I guarantee you'll get a multitude of various answers. To be fair, most of the answers you got here are somewhat right.
Beer, hot women (except a sergeant I know of), hiding (field craft), kangaroos, accents, special forces, mateship, professionalism, tagging along with the US/UK fairly recently... yep.

They're not known for anything, let alone best known. If there must be something - blindly following the USA on their quest for WMDs or CGI planes or whatever . . .
