In fact not possible.
But you can do if someone is ready to cooperate having conference facility. assume him .X.
The X should call you first and the X must put your call on hold
The X should make another call to the suspected person 'N'.
Once the call to 'N' connects the 'X' must immediately switch the call to conference. The 'X' should not speak.
the number of 'X' only will be displayed on "N' phone and he would be on idea that you are at phone of 'X'.
In Reliance land lines call transfer is available, that option is very easy.

Look in the front pages of your telephone book... It should list features like *67, *69, *70 etc... One of these might disable call display, on a per use basis. Another option is to ask your service provider to block your number all the time. They most likely will not charge for this.
Note: this won't work if you call 911... they can see your number and location even if you do subscribe to call block features.
Another option is to always use a payphone.
If it wasn't a legal / private matter, you could ask an amateur radio operator to patch you through over public airwaves, and that would rule out call tracing.

I don't know what type of phone you have, but on my cell phone there is a feature that enables me to hide my number so others see it as withheld.
About your area code/location showing up on his bill: Typically if you are initiating the call, it will show up as "incoming call" on his bill, but if he calls you back, it will list the city to which the area code belongs. You can check with your cell service provider to get more information.
If you are referring to a landline phone, I believe you can get your number blocked through the phone company. I have mine blocked.

Call off a payphone and make sure to bring tons of nickels with you, incase they charge you % cents by every few minutes, I know you don't wanna spend the money, but it's not worth it by him getting your new number
