a stable question. permit's see now. In Spain there are 4 languages: a million - Catalan 2 - Vasco 3 - Gallego 4 - Castellano As you assert properly, castellano is the easy language called español, spoken via all Spaniards and Spanish audio device greater often than not, however the definition of castellano, etc, you will discover it merely in Spain. that's extremely prolonged the assumption of asserting español in different worldwide places, somewhat of castellano. Very seldom will somebody confer with español as castellano exterior of Spain. besides, that's in Spain the place you will discover the classic language. In different worldwide places what we use is a close-by version of the language. evaluate the adaptation between the British English and the English spoken in Australia, India, Canada, etc

I agree with ILoveJes MOSTLY. Both are correct but Castillano technically means the Spanish from Castilla. SO the Spanish from other regions, ie. Sevilla, Galicia, Ibiza and Las Palmas might not be considered Castellano. Neither is unpopular especially if you are a foreigner using the term while speaking Spanish. If you're speaking English, just say Spanish. Good luck!

They are synonymous. They mean exactly the same thing. In Spain, we usually refer to our main language as Castellano because in some regions we speak other languages too (Vasco, Catalan, Gallego). But talking to a foreigner I'd use the word "espanol" just not to make any confusion.

Both are correct.
EDITTING...
"ILoveJesusChrist" is wrong. Castellano (Castillan) is not a Spanish dialect from Castilla. Really "español" (not espanol) y "castellano" are synonymous. It´s exactly the same tongue. It´s called "castellano" because it originates in a region of Spain called "Castilla" but internationally it´s called "español" because It originates in Spain (España) but in realiy castellano is more popular in the hispanic world that español.
Of course the Spanish from Spain is called "español iberico" (Iberian Spanish) not castellano.
Bye!!!

When I was in Guatemala, nobody ever said "Castellano". Only español. But the bank machines and anything mass media usually said "en castellano".
I have read in more than one book that Castellano refers to American Spanish (the continent, not the USA), while español, coming from the word for Spain "España".
So the proper way to say it in Latin America is Castellano, but people verbally will rarely say it in everyday talk. Whenever I have met Spanish speaking people, they have always said "Habla español muy bien!" to me as a compliment.....never "Habla castellano muy bien"

Castellano is the spanish word for Castilian! There are to versions of spanish; Castilian Spanish, and Latin American Spanish!
LIke there are two versions of English; American English and Brittish English.
So it depends, if you're speaking Castilin Spanish, or Latin American Spanish!
