I may soon be travelling on the high speed east coast mainline UK trains. I wanted definitive info on the size and capacity of the overheard luggage rack. I have a smallish wheeled suitcase that I want to put above.

It would be a GNER train.

Since you don't give a definitive train that you will be travelling on, and there are at least three high speed train types on the route, it is impossible to give a definitive answer to your question.

Put it in the luggage racks at the end and find an aisle seat facing in that direction so you can see it, if you're that worried about it.

Having said that, a small wheeled flight bag that fits in airline overhead compartments will sometimes fit in overhead luggage racks. A large wheeled suitcase will not, and one has to consider the weight of such an item as well.

I can't give you a definitive size but can tell you that I have travelled many times on the East Coast Main Line and have often seen smallish suitcases on the overhead racks. However, if yours doesn't fit all carriages have a luggage rack at one end of the carriage which extends for the full height of the carriage.
