Freshness is partly right, but it's also a production thing.
It would add an extra processing step and the meat of the actual nut would spoil quickly if exposed.
Brazil nuts are harvested from pods on trees that are about the size of a coconut,and the nuts inside are again encased in a shell. So they have their own package when sold whole.

Mostly because they lose flavor and nutrients quickly once shelled. Then, they go stale.
You can find them in nut mixes already shelled, though.

Buy mixed nuts. They're in those bags. I think its because they haven't figured out a way to do this really fast, which means they lose $$$

they do come in cans of mixed nuts. i did not know you could just buy plain brazil nuts.

you can buy them I have seen them in the store they are more expensive just like the rest of them when someone else shells them lol you just don't recognize them shelled in a bag
