I just need a little help because I am and always have been a good christian. And that's not the problem, its the science side of all this. I mean science has been wrong before hence why its theorys, but right now it seems so true. One example is like how we evolved from chimpansess. Why do we have tail bones, and molar teeth? I don't know. And I kind of believe in life outside earth- like aliens... And if I think this is is it wrong considering that it contradicts God? I'm confused, and I'm not sure if anyone can help me, but do you guys ever get lost with this sort of stuff too?

It is quite possible to be a devoted Xian and respect the scientific field. It requires you not to mindlessly follow dogma, so like the OT you can chose that theory to accept and what not to.

"One example is like how we evolved from chimpansess."
Take an anthropology class or read up on the evolutionary theory. It is a FACT that human's have evolved, not from monkey's, but from humans. We were always our own species, we've just evolved from the changes due to climate and enviroment. Anthropologist have found the remains of our ancestors which date back thousand's of years ago and the bones show the evolution our bodies undertook as a result of climate change. In my anthropology classes I found it interesting how the evolution of humans is evident due to the many different races.

"And I kind of believe in life outside earth- like aliens... And if I think this is is it wrong considering that it contradicts God?"
How does believing in life on a different planet contradict Christianity? Does it say in the Bible that the only form of life exist on one planet and that is earth? If you're thinking about the book of Genesis and the statement that Adam and Eve were created by God in his image, how does believing in other life contradict that?

I'm not Christian, and I don't get confused with facts and the unknown. Beliefs are opinions, but you cannot ignore evidence in science when it comes to species evolving to better serve it in a climate change.

Love and light
Blessed Be.

OK, everyone seems to think you have to believe in science or God and that the two are mutually exclusive.

I believe that science as we know it, is finding out the way God did what he did.

For those who do not follow Christianity, I have yet to have a good intelligent conversation where they can fully verbalize their belief in the big bang (most usually do not know that there is more than one theory).

To add insult to injury most can not explain how life came from lifeless material. Most will jabber on about some magical ooze which only happened the once and not since.

Concerning alien life, most atheist I have encountered face to face believe in alien life but laugh at those who think aliens have been to earth. Just seems very closed minded from someone who is a "free thinker."

While it is splitting hairs, we did not evolve FROM chimpanzees. Both humans and chimpanzees came from a common ancestor - according to what the current version of evolutionary belief is.

Having been raised in a secular environment and not happy with the holes left by life from lifelessness, evolution, the big bang - my belief system incorporated God.

My guess is that you are young, maybe an early teen.
This is where I was in my mind when I was 12.
I was driven to get answers and the religious crowd could not provide anything that didn't involve magic and downright craziness.
At 12, I therefore took the first step into atheism. The best decision of my life. It took three years before I could be brave enough to admit it to all and anyone but that moment was 50 years ago. Now, I am proud to be an atheist and I would heartily-recommend the choice of reality for everyone.
It can be a difficult step to take, particularly if your parents are still a major influence, particularly if you live in the bible-belt and all your friends and contacts are devout believers. No-one will tell that it will be easy but it IS possible.

A few corrections.
Theories are entirely valid. The word theory does not mean that it's a wild guess. Since there was no-one around for millions of years of the history of this planet, no-one made notes or took photographs of what was actually going on. Therefore, scientists of various branches assess all the available information and theorise. So often, these theories are as close as we can get to the actuality right now but the intelligent amongst us assess the provided theories and either accept them or not.
We did NOT evolve from chimpanzees. We and chimpanzees and any other member of the simian species, including homo sapiens, evolved from a common ancestor, our lines splitting from each other species with the passage of time and change in environment.
Aliens. Quite possible but there is no proven evidence of their existence, whether here or anywhere else in the universe - yet. The numbers suggest that, with the sheer number of planets and solar systems out there that there could well be at least one with the right conditions to kick-start life of some sort. We will see on this one.
None of this contradicts a god, as there is no such thing as an actual god. See, if you eliminate a fictitious god from the equation, it all makes sense. What all this DOES do is contradict the bible. That isn't difficult to do. In fact, it's very easy.

So, don't be confused. See reality for what it is and dump the god-concept from your mind. Everything then falls into place with no confusion at all.

Much more to say on the subject but that's enough for now.

First the word "theory" in science does not mean that it is a "guess" or an "idea". Theories in science are facts that have been proven. However, you should know that evolution does not claim to have proof of how life started, only that it progresses in certain ways. How life started is called Abiogenesis, and no one knows yet what put 'life' into motion. Evolution is not against god....it is only against scripture that was written by men thousands of years ago.

Though I am a Pagan atheist, I would suggest to you that you take God out of the very small box that you have him, broaden your mind, and search your own heart. Stop being spoonfed your religion and find your own spirituality....whatever that may be.

Don't worry, things can get pretty confusing when discussing evolution vs. creation as well as life on other planets and such--you're not the only one who'd like a little more explanation.

There are two books that will help imensely in answering your questions;

"Life; How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or Creation?" Chapter titles include: "Could life originate by chance?" "Letting the fossil record speak" "Why do many accept evolution?" "Can you trust the bible?" "Mutations-a basis for evolution?" "Why would god permit suffering?"
Using clear logic and the observations of reputable scientists, this book presents an examination of how life got here and what this can mean for you.

The other is; "What Does The Bible Really Teach?" Chapter titles include: "What is the truth about God?" "What is God's purpose for the earth?" "Where are the dead?" "Spirit creatures-How they affect us" "Why does God allow suffering?" "How to make your family life happier"
This book will help you find answers to life's most important questions in your very own bible. It even has an appendix section in the back of it that delves deeper into subjects such as; "The truth about the father the son, and the holy spirit" "What are Sheol and Hades?" "Was Jesus born in December?" "Identifying Babylon the Great" and "Should we celebrate holidays?"

You can request a free copy of either/both books by writing to: 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY, 11201-2483. (Just make sure you include the titles of course!)

To me, being a Born-back Christian, what i've got self belief is awareness to me. for example, "God exists": it relatively is awareness. Others call it a perception yet i be attentive to via my very very own reports, and so on. A perception I easily have is that God likes u.s.. Do i be attentive to? No...yet i've got self belief thisin the face of issues like Katrina. How can we tell the version? - First you need to stipulate awareness and, hence, the fact. the fact isnt constantly precise, of direction. there grew to become right into a portray attributed to one Ren. Dutch artist and that grew to become into seen the fact on the time. interior the previous due ninety's they found it grew to become into yet another, greater imprecise Dutch artist who had painted it. Which grew to become into the fact? maximum folk believed they had awareness of the fact yet then the fact gave the impression to be purpose. perception and records are one interior an identical. chuffed Sabbath - i wish this helped.

I don't get lost in it. For one thing I never consider myself a 'good Christian' because since I left my life to God, I no longer measure things by a standard of men, but God's only. And by God's standard I am not good, for there is none good but God.

As far as creatures resembling other creatures, yeah. Some resemble others. That doesn't mean we came from them, or they came from each other. It's assumption that can play with us like that. Not fact. That's why the theory of Evolution is still a theory.

Well actually to me the only thing that doesnt make sense to me is the tail bone but I think we had molar teeth because God originally wanted us to be vegetarian before sin. And there is life outside of earth but not aliens, Other Heavenly Unfallen beings watching the controversy between good and evil here on earth. And i do get confused about these stuff but thats what preachers and pastors and creationists are for to help answer your questions and Yahoo Answersis a good place to ask Questions. Hope that helps email me though if you are still lost.

Why do you see a conflict in this? Being a good Christian is not only a belief but a form of a good lifestyle. Having belief in science is completely a different item. When Jesus walked the earth you could die from an infection. Now through science you get a penicillin shot and a week later you are cured. I see no conflict between the two. Go on believing in God the way you want to and continue to see science for what it is, the growth of man's understanding.
