i want to buy a movie on ebay, im from australia and the movie i want is for sale in australia but the movie was produced in the US. in the description it says make sure your dvd player is region-1, what does that mean and how do i know if it will play in my dvd player. i have a sony DVD player and it wouldn't be anymore than 2 years old. so how do i know if it will work in my player?

DVD Region Breakdown

Region 1 - U.S.A., Canada, U.S. Territories
Region 2 - Europe, Japan, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
Region 3 - Southeast Asia, East Asia (including Hong Kong but excluding China)
Region 4 - Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
Region 5 - Eastern Europe (Russia and the former Soviet Union), India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia
Region 6 - China
Region 7 - Reserved
Region 8 - Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

Each of our DVD listing will state its region code. Most of our DVDs are All Region Code which are playable on any DVD player.

Some DVDs are Region Code 3 and before purchasing, please make sure that

Try an all-region hack. Go to the videohelp.com website and click on "DVD Hacks". Then look up your dvd player's make and model number and try one of the all-region "hacks" (a hidden code which,when activated,will allow your payer to play discs from all parts of the world).
