Very nice everyone!
I've used a three scripture presentation from a past CO for several years now.
I ask:
"When you look around at the world today, do you think all these hardships is what God intended- or do you think he had something better in mind." [allow response]
"Genesis 1:31 tells us [I read it to them]..... So, we see here that everything God created was very good. If God didn't create the bad things around us then, who did? [allow response] 1 John 3:8 says: [I read the first part] but it doesn't end there... it gives a promise [I finish reading it]."
I close by paraphrasing Mt. 6:10 and explaining how God's Kingdom is the only hope for mankind and that what he purposed in the very beginning WILL realized in the future. And I tie it in to whatever tract I'm comfortable with offering them.
I only work with tracts. If the person shows any future interest then I offer the magazines or books.
More recently though, I go to the door with:
"Hello, how are you today? My name's April and I'm just briefly visiting with people to offer some good news from the Bible. With all the problems in the world today- financial, health, family problems... it seems everyone could use some good news! Are you much of a Bible reader? [allow response] "God's Word provides us with the best answers possible...." And then I offer the "Would you like to know more about the Bible" tract. If they indicated they don't read the Bible or don't have time for a study, I show them the coupon on the back of the tract and tell them they could mail it in if they're ever interested.

When I am presenting the Bible Teach book I ask the householder this question - "Why do you think we have so much suffering in the world?" After they reply I say "Did you know that there are three reasons? The first reason we can find at 1 John 5:19 (Read). So who do you think this wicked one is that it talks about?" Let them reply. "Yes, it's Satan the Devil. He is the ruler of this world." Then I turn to page 108 in the Bible Teach book and read paragraph #7. Then I tell them - "I would like to leave the book with you and when I come back the next time I will tell you the second reason."
Our Circuit Overseer gave us that presentation.
Tannerpreaching - You took my presentation!! LOL

Daniel 2:44 and Psalms 37:10-11......
When I'm out in service, I try to deal with what's happening "right now" in peoples lives... their jobs, or lack of; raising their children and the problems that we all face in the world on a daily basis. So I find these scriptures to be very encouraging as well as comforting, both to myself and to those that I encounter.
Most people have a bleak outlook on the future, they just don't know that Jehovah loves them and has their future happiness at heart.
Some accept this message with gratitude, and many more reject it....but that's to be expected, isn't is? Sad!

The one that works for me is Matt:24:14, by asking do they know the specific message that Jesus went & sent his deciples out in twos to deliver to the people according to Acts 1:8? allow response use the above scripture then present the magazine hopefully you'll find an interested one & set for a return visit. for me this works for a large variety of situations but of course the suggestions on the km are good to, but you have to prepare for conversation stoppers, but remember we're searching for descerning ones that are tired of this system of things. hth.

It's been a long time since I went on the door to door work as I am disfellowshiped (not for much longer ) but the one that sticks in my mind is Matthew 6:10 and asking what the kingdom is.

I usually ask them if they say the Lord's Prayer (or Our Father, if they say they are Catholics) and ask them if they are aware of what they are asking for when they say that prayer. Then, by turning to Matthew 6 v 9, go through the verses and explain, finally I offer the Kingdom brochure. I am usually successful with this.
However, as I am now in Hungary and do not get to speak to many English people, (usually foreign students who speak English rather than Hungarian), asking if they are aware of God's name and direct them to Psalm 83 v 18 and then John 17 v 3 , taking in knowledge.

I have two that are pretty useful for first-time or even return visits:
James 1: 12 - 15
Happy is the man that keeps on enduring trial, because on becoming approved he will receive the crown of life, which Jehovah promised to those who continue loving him. When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.
2 Peter 3: 8 - 10
"However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. Yet Jehovah’s day will come as a thief..."

None.
I am involved in many humanitarian and charitable projects and no scriptures at all enter my mind.
I do wonder, though, why these people suffering from extreme poverty and deprivation, those who we rescue from natural disasters, still cling to the idea that there is a loving father-figure up above the clouds supposedly offering protection ... Yeah, right!
