You would think that people would eventually reject an ideology that creates such oppression, violence and hatred. Perhaps they are indoctrinated so extremely that it's difficult but eventually you would think that their desire to live free would cause people to reject Islam.

Those people in the countries of Islam live in fear. They have very strict laws regarding adherence to Islam. Some of those countries would put you into jail if you practice other religion. I once had a Muslim friend who told me he wants to convert to Christianity but he warned never and never to tell anyone esp. his fellow Muslims. Since other religions or beliefs are not allowed to preach in their societies so the people don't have options or chance to like other religion.

It is oppression that eventually face defeat. Oppression has existed in different religions.

Christians poisoned Galileo to death just because he said that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Was that not oppression? Yet Christianity has survived, hasn't it?

Again I come back to the main point. People eventually rise against oppression, as we have seen in Afghanistan. They rose up not because they hated Islam, but because they hated fundamentalism and oppression.

I think the answer that makes the most sense is that most people are followers, and believe they have a better life with all of the structure that Islam provides for them. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but it is the only thing that makes sense to me. I am not trying to imply that they are weak minded either. I think it is so engrained in their culture, and has been accepted for so long, they see no need to question or revolt.

Sorry...you got it all wrong. The word Islam itself means "Love". Its not the ideologies of Islam which are oppressive...but the ideologies of few who have misunderstood the entire meaning of a religion and adopt oppressive and cruel methods for their own selfish reasons.

Bethy you have finally reported something that i desire to assist. yet another respond above covers what i desire to declare, in that any political ideology in line with faith is a theocracy. Theocracies are notoriously risky to society, in spite of if or no longer they be Islamic, Christian, or perhaps Buddhist. The function of government, as maximum suitable exemplified interior the 1st modification, is to first deny the corporation of any faith, and then to guard the loose exercising of any faith. something greater advantageous than a denial of the corporation of a faith creates extreme entanglement via the government, and something below the finished risk-free practices of the loose exercising, denies the voters of their standard freedoms.

Islam originally grew by conquest. But modern Islam is for the most part much more peaceful... there are a few extremists that give the rest a bad name, that's all.

How could it be exterminated when they have control of a large portion of Africa and western Asia? Unless large portions of non-Muslims migrates to the area or through war, that religion will remain.
