i started out drinking every now and then, not a lot. then i drank every friday night for three weeks in a row, wasted every friday night. i stopped drinking for about 2 weeks, then i drank a lot again this friday. tonight, my hands are shaking, im very hyper and jumpy, my elbows are hurting (if that matters? idk), and i had a cold sweat. can this be the start of withdrawals?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM ALL ALCOHOL!!!!!!!
EVEN COCA COLA AND COFFEE CAN GIVE YOU THOSE SAME SYMPTOMS WHEN YOU NO LONGER LET THEM RULE YOUR LIFE. SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO HAVE HELP FROM SOMEONE YOU TRUST AND LOVES AND BELIEVES IN YOU. NEVER DRINK AGAIN EVER YOU ARE ONE OF MANY WHO HAS HABITUAL TENDANCIES AND CAN NO LONGER HANDLE A SINGLE DROP. THIS YAHOO POSTING IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE. IT TELLS ME THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO HURT YOURSELF AND YOU ONLY WANT TO PROTECT YOURSELF SO TAKE THE NEXT IMPORTANT STEP...
STOP DRINKING, ( AND ANY OTHER BAD HABITS)
KNOW THIS... YOU WILL GO THRU WITHDRAWAL SO GIVE YOURSELF A COUPLE OF DAYS TO RECOVER AND SAY THE AA MANTRA:
GOD GRANT US THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS WE CANNOT CHANGE, COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS WE CAN, AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.
IT IS ONE THING TO BE COOL WHILE DRINKING AND ANOTHER TO BE AN ALCOHOLIC.
I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST GOOD LUCK :):)

Actually it could because everyone has different tolerances. What exactly were you drinking? Plus ask yourself are you wanting a drink right now? If so then that could be withdrawal. You say you were wasted so anything is possible. Im not sure about the elbows hurting unless you were so wasted and fell on them. Good Luck. The hyper, jumping around, and shaking hands make it seem like you are fiending for a drink or it could all be in your head that you would want to relive Friday night all over again

Each human body is unique up to a point, so what others go through may not apply exactly to you. However, it seems your body has a problem coping with the amount of alcohol you're ingesting, and handling the withholding of it. I would say, "Stop drinking and check with a doctor about your shakes and any other symptoms you may be experiencing." You may have a latent nervous disorder, some sort of imbalance(such as a lack of B-complex vitamins), or something else which the alcohol aggravated. Best to make sure.

Well, I'm not thrilled with the answers you've received thus far, so I'm going to put in my own $0.02.

For starters, to have a psysiological addiction (ie: your body is accustomed to functioning with alcohol in system and has trouble with alcohol being withdrawn from system) your body requires nearly 24/7 exposure to the stubstance.

You don't seem to come close to that kind of exposure.

Second, the symptoms you describe are somewhat vague in being able to qualify any specific background, reason, or explanation for whats the underlying cause. They do not appear to be a case of Delerium Tremors (I may have misspelled it, its "DT's" to us medical people, the shaking and associated problems with alcohol withdrawl).

Your hands shaking, being hyper and jumpy all sound like your sympathetic nervous system has been activated beyond its normal production of hormones, whether its a big case of nervousness, too much caffeine, an adrenaline rush, illness, etc. Your hands and feet may even be cold or slightly pale.
The cold sweat ties into this, as the sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the "fight or flight" response when creatures are faced with danger, and one of the effects is to constrict the peripherial blood vessels, less blood going to the skin and extremities, more blood available for the heart/lungs/brain for a crisis.
Hurting elbows... could be almost anything from a sprain/strain to a bruise to muscle aches.

Good Luck.

To become physically dependent on alcohol (to the point of withdrawal/DTs) requires heavy abuse over a long period of time. Your recent drinking is not abnormal nor terribly harmful in and of itself, but if you are feeling aftereffects or are concerned about your drinking, you should consider drinking less when you go out.

It's normal to do drinking.
Just do it moderately.

If you really wanted to remove a vice in drinking, you can do some other work or diversions such as going out to movies or reading pocket books.

Yes, that is also called alcoholic neuropathy. Alcohol depletes your vitamin B stores. You should take vitamin B complex or better yet go to a specialist. A toxicologist is the best one to approach.

no, you're just analyzing your body to closely. you would have to be dependent on alcohol to have withdrawls from it. And if you haven't drank that much recently then it is seriously doubtful that you are having withdrawls. it could possibly be PMS though... ANYWAYS, pop a few advil and go to bed... you'll feel better in no time.

yes very possibly.. my ex boyfriend was an alcoholic and that would happen to him. You'll know when you realize you can't completely stop drinking.. if you can, then do it..and do it now..

Alcoholism is one "monkey" you don't want on your back.

Take good care, and I wish you the best.. keep trying.
