Summer begins in December, if I am correct. Are there camps that would still accept American applicants for jobs, and are there services that set Americans up with summer camp jobs in Australia? Sort of an Australian equivilant of Camp America or CCUSA?

Many Americans have fit in well in Australia (the ones I personally know of, anyway), but it all depends on what you're after in a town. I'm from Perth and would recommend Perth to anyone because of the weather, outdoorsy lifestyle, the best beaches in the country, the river on one side and the bush on the other, and despite the fact that it's a state capital city, it's very laid-back. Having said that though, there are no other big cities nearby - only small farming, mining and coastal towns (some of which are great for holidays, by the way). But if you would prefer the east coast, the suburbs of Melbourne or Sydney are not far from camping areas/bushland etc but still near the big city. Tasmania is great for the outdoorsy lifestyle but it's a tad colder than the rest of the country. I do live in Canberra now for work, and it's only a few hours from Sydney, the snowfields and an hour or two from the coast. (Personally I don't know if its great for camping etc though, and I can't see myself living here long-term. The traffic is mad and there's no beach nearby.) Queensland has a lot of outdoorsy opportunities, but might be a bit warm for your liking, if you prefer colder winters I wouldn't bother. But you should browse through some travel books because everyone is going to be biased I think, based on where they're from! Everyone is going to say their city is the best! (Pick Perth!!)

we don't really have Summer Camps here. Kids who are not looked after by family usually go to the school holiday progammes in there area/school which is run by a staff that runs the after school care. I beleive there are some. Try google....summer camps Australia. I had a look out of curiosity once and found some and yes Summer is 1st December but school doesn't get out till about 22nd December. Most likely they would start in the new Year

summer school holidays here really only go for about 6 weeks. there are school holiday programs but they only really usually run for 2 maybe 3 weeks and they are day camps where the kids will go out for the day and come home at night. It would be tough to find a spot working at one of them as there aren't really any programs that cater to placing workers in them.
you might be better off looking north (queensland - the sunshine state ) to maybe working in a resort or something? hampton island perhaps?
or you could look at staying in melbourne and working at the 'Australian Open' (tennis)?
good luck

There are a few camps but nothing prolific like in the USA.

Generally, during school holidays - for primary school -age kids, most people send their kids to "child-care" during the day and they come home at night.

'Summer camps' aren't as popular here as they are in America, i think there are not very many...you would be better off trying for a different job.

possibly, but it is not a tradition here like North America.

Wouldnt know where to look, maybe Rotary, or check in with your education department there in the U.S.

no most parents in Australia look after their own kids not dump them in a camp to get rid of them for a few weeks
