I have to leave for a meeting out of state on Friday and will not be home until Sunday.

Now, I will clean the litter box before I go. If I give some "extra" food and a larger bowl of water, will my cat be o.k. while I am gone? or should I have someone stop in on Saturday and feed him?

Advice greatly appreciated.

Dang ... and I thought only the R&S section had judgmentalists in it. Lighten up on the condemnation, folks. Does it make sense that someone who is indifferent or cruel to their pet would even be concerned enough to ASK this question? Good grief.

Kitty will be fine, though lonely ... but as long as there is adequate food and water and you've dealt with the safety issues, just be sure give him/her extra attention & reassurance when you return. It's a fairly short period of time, really, though about the longest I'd feel comfortable leaving a kitty alone without someone checking in.

Any time it's possible to have someone come check on the kitty that is ideal. Really the cat would be ok. If he is a young cat he will get really bored. Make sure if you do ever have to leave him alone that you put more than one bowl of water down. Make them heavier bowls. This way you know for sure he hasn't tipped his water over. If this is a cat that is used to having a very clean litter box, you should have someone scoop it for you. Some cats will not use it if it's dirty in the slightest. Good luck!

The cat will be fine.

Put two or three water bowls down, several feet apart, that way if for some reason he startles and upsets one, he isn't without water.

If it is a playful kitty, scatter some toys around so it can find something to play with in every room. Maybe consider buying a couple of new toys for entertainment while you are gone. Maybe provide a tory or two with catnip in it.

Arrange with someone ahead of time to look in on Kitty if you don't make it back when you planned.

Consider closing your bedroom door when you leave. If an angry kitty pees on the couch, that's bad enough. You don't want it on your pillow after a long trip home.

Make SURE that the room is "kitty proof. Wires/cords put away. No small spaces left open, where kitty could get stuck. With extra food and water, your cat should be okay, but will probably get very bored and you will probably have a mess to clean up when you get home- my cat once destroyed a pack of TP, it was EVERYWHERE. If you have a willing family member/friend, it would be better to have someone stop in and check on her on Saturday.

Hi.
1. WIth regard to the food, ensure that there are no ants or any other insects that might spoil the food since it iwll be kept open for quiet a long time.
2. Has you cat runaway any time before? If so there may be chances that it goes away since it si alone. It will keep searching for you in your house, bakyard, garage and all places and may leave. Our cat was in our house when we left for a vacation for a week. But we ensured that there is a person who feeds her twice a day with fresh milk.
3. Dont get mad on your cat, in case she has thrown things aside. She must have been searching for you and the things would have fallen down.
4. Your cat's love will be seen on your return. Iam sure she will come running the moment she hears your foot steps near the door.
I hope she does weel and all the best for your meeting. Dont worry. She will just do fine :-)

He'll be okay.

If someone could just come in on Saturday to check on him it would be even better...sometimes cats knock their water dish over or make a big mess digging in the litter box because they're bored.

Put out several bowls of water, and put his food in several bowls.

your cat should be fine you should leave the TV or the radio on for noise i would put 2 big bowls of water and the same for food if you have some you trust have them stop by just to pet and clean out the box but if you don't he should be OK good luck we left our cat like that a few times

if your cats anything like mine i would have an extra litter box placed in the house. Leave enough food for just in case you don't get back in time. Cats sleep most of the day anyway. But still leave something comforting to him. For example i always leave my bedroom door open so he can sleep there, he likes that alot.

Your cat will be fine for a couple of days with a clean littler box and plenty of food and water. Check your pet store for gravity feeders and waterer's, they will make sure your pet has plenty of fresh food and water.
Be prepared for a little "attitude" when you get home though..."oh, look who decided to come home...". Some cats will express their displeasure by peeing on your bed or clothes, so don't be suprised If your cat acts out a little either.

Please at least have someone check on the kitty on Saturday, to make sure it is safe, has food, water, and a clean littler box. Cats are like children, they get stressed and anxious if left alone too long. They also get into things they shouldn't if left to themselves. And don't think that if it is bored, it won't get into your cupboards and eat something poisonous or get stuck somewhere and not be able to get unstuck on its own, or climb onto something that you don't think it can and fall off and break a leg.

Concern for a helpless animal is not being judgemental, it is wanting humane treatment for a loyal pet and companion!
