A while back I was on a forum and there was a religious debate and one of th debaters was Jewish and she would write G-d. She even explained how it was a form of respect. Cool, right? I never knew that until then.

Anyways, another debater after that would write God with the o underlined, assuming to make a point that she thought it was respectful not to change his name.

Was she rude to underline the o?

Just looking to see your opinion, I thought she was rude cause she did it on purpose, not because it's how she would always write it like the Jewish person would.

I'm asking for you to look at this as a person, I don't care if you don't believe in God or whatever...cause I'm not religious. I basically want to know if you agree with me or not.

Yes, that was mildly rude. She was openly defying another person's religious practice. When I was in the Middle East over Ramadan, I observed the fast just like everybody else. It would have been rude for me to walk down the street eating a ham sandwich.

Yes, I feel this was rude because it didn't take into account the belief system of the other person, and it was not like his/her belief system stated that the O had to be underlined. The Christian/Jewish God actually has a name though, it is YHWH. God is a title not the name. :) When the Jews wrote the Bible originally they had to wash their hands before and after every time they wrote the YHWH because it was such a Holy name. Eventually the re-writers of the Bible changed YHWH to LORD (not Lord- which most times refers to Jesus) There is even a notation in the beginning of most Bibles to this effect.

I think she was disrespectful and wrongfully believed she was "standing up for Jesus".
I cannot understand why Xians here get hung up on the spelling of an innocuous English word. The word God itself is not sacred. God is sacred but this is just the English version of the word.
And I say Xians a lot because it is shorter, quicker to type and in the questions you are only allowed a certain number of characters.
I really don't think God is as hung up about it as many Xtians are. Some even get their panties in a wad if it is not capitalized.
We should worry about the real issues here not be spelling and grammar nazis.

You being in the forum would be more likely to pick up on the tone of the debate. She either was angered and becoming rude from her anger, or maybe, no I think your right.

Cannot say I've heard of this but....

Don't forget the there are as many Jewish sects as there are Xian & Muslim.

If that as her way to showing respect then that should have been respected. I know, out of respect, most Muslim sects do not display portraits of the Prophet. & it is a matter of courtesy to respect this.

God is the creator's title, not his name.
Jesus asked us to MANIFEST HIS NAME.

(John 17:6) “I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word.

Just what IS God's personal name?

(Exodus 6:3) And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.

This scripture makes a clear delineation between title and name.

God never said to cover up, hide or alter his name or title.

G-d is a man's idea and has no scriptural basis...and is disrespectful. It goes against what Jesus preached.

God is God's title, His name is Jehova. And I do not think He minds us using His name or his title. His Biblical name YHWH has been translated in English to Jehova. Just like Yeshua to Jesus. Its all relative

Yes, she was rude and disrespectful.

But then again, this is the Internet and rudeness by some is to be expected here.

The Westerner thinks it is rude when you do not look into the eyes when someone speaks to you.

The Easterner thinks it is rude when you DO look into the eyes when someone speaks to you.

So who is rude?

It's all pointless. God isn't even God's real name. YHWH is the closest we'll ever get to knowing God's real name.
