In survivor the flight attendant guy said he was a gay mormon. Desperate housewives just had 2 guys say they were gay mormons.
Ok wait a sec
You can say you are gay and be a good standing mormon but you cant practice homosexual behavior and really be a good standing mormon.
What is up with these tv shows?
Does any other mormon find this a bit odd or humorous or confusing?

LOL ok wait, I just rewound the clip and the gay mormon thing on desperate housewives was a shot at poligamy because one of the woman thought there was a threesome, but they were talking about a dog, lol. I get it now.

Actually you cant be a mormon in good standing and be practicing homosexual behaviors. That is why I said you can be gay and still be a good standing mormon, but you cant engage in the practices and be a good standing mormon.
I dont know if the survivor guy actual practices the behavior, but the desperate housewives guys were living together, but I think I just misinterpreted that joke about mormons with that show.

lol I didnt understand what you were talking about when you said concept of priviledge and then I looked back at a diff question
priviledge, under the legal sense, is that if a person is your client then whatever you tell them is private and cant be divulged or forced to be divulged by the courts or anyone else, unless they are going to commit a crime and tell you about it.
Attorney-client priviledge
Priests share the same priviledge, under that law, but there are some cases that have chipped away a little at the absolute nature of the clergy priviledge
the point of attorney priviledge is to allow for the client to recieve the best possible representation without fear of having what they said to their attorney thrown back in their face
point of the priest priviledge is the concept of freedom of religion and being able to confess without fear of retribution from the law

Well I guess it is possible then since that is what they call themselves. If they are doing anything sexual they are breaking one of their own rules though.
not mormon, but it is a little confusing.

The desperate housewives crack was when the woman assumed that the Dog was a third partner...they made a sarcastic remark about being gay mormons (ie polygamous).
It amazes me when comments like that show up on TV in this century. Mormons don't and can't practice polygamy. They haven't for over 100 years.
You can have same sex attractions and still be a good Mormon. All unmarried Mormons are expected to maintain sexual purity....straight and gay alike.

They were joking on Desperate Housewives, when she thought there was a 3rd man in the relationship. Either way Mormons do not practice polygamy. There are websights dedicated to gay Mormons, so yes there are some, but Mormons believe acting on those feelings is sin, as do most Christian religions. Adultry is a son in eevry religon, yet there are plenty who do it and they still claim to be Catholic, Baptist, Mormon, etc... Everybody sins.

There is a difference between being gay and acting upon those urges. You can't be a practicing "Mormon" if you are having sex outside of marriage.
TV shows are sort-of entertainment, not real life. It's not confusing at all. Listen to our leaders, not the twits in Hollyweird!

i know a gay mormon who still loves the mormon church and is fully "active" as they put it. his reasoning is that his being gay doesn't give him a license to go have sex with men, any more than a single mormon hetero has the license to go have sex with the opposite sex until they're married. it's not that mormons are against gays, it's that they're against single individuals having sex outside of marriage.

Where in the bible does it speak of the book of mormon or their founder? Anyone can claim to be a prophet and have recieved a revelation from God as have muslims, hindues, monks, catholics etc. I'm not trying to be hateful but relistic as so many people think they are prophets and the messages thy got aren't the same. Think about. Unless it lines up with the Bible it is wrong!!! Why is this so hard to understand? Jesus was the only ONE to raise from the dead as well, so if you want to believe a book be smart and choose HIS.

I dunno...why don't you ask him?
This is actually the second gay mormon on survivor...a few years ago there was a read headed guy who was a gay mormon.
You can still be gay, in a relationship, and still be a mormon who goes to church. Of course because they have free agency......
-----------------------
there is a difference between being a "good standing mormon" and just being mormon by itself. A sinner is not a good standing mormon, but they're still mormon(if they're baptized of course)...so doesn't that mean none of us are good standing in our faith?
I believe that if you want to do something in your life, like getting drunk, getting a tattoo, being gay, smoking, etc. is fine as long as it is fine with you. It's your personal choice. My salvation is not determined by someone elses and what that person does in their private life is between them and God, not them and the church.

There are many gay mormons. Some call themselves gay, but they don't have sex with men. Some are even married with children. Others think it is ok to have sex with men and still be a mormon. Everyone is just trying to find their place in their society, family, culture and religion. I wish the LDS church didn't make them conform and deny their own self identity, but they do.

I think that if someone wants to stick with Christianity that is gay, they can't be practicing. I don't think there is anything wrong with openly admitting who they are attracted to.

You can be whichever religion you like and state that fact-- just because every single person in that religion doesn't like it, and just because many people of that religion are intolerant toward your orientation, that doesn't make you a liar or any less LDS.
