I went to the store, and they had some great value hot dogs on sale for $1.14 for 40 hot dogs.
My dog has been sick, so I bought 80 hot dogs to stuff his pills in and make him do tricks.
Is this a bad idea? He loves them. He will do anything to get a slice of hot dog.

Thats a good idea. I know someone who feeds their dog wieners all the time. They don't have to be cooked, but you can cook them first if you want. I have heard of people using pieces of wiener to train their dogs.
I should also say that was a great deal that you got on them. Where I live its $1.50 for 12. :)

Happy! 4 year old Lab, that's a great age for a dog! I'd like to feed him myself! Hot dogs should help him get well, not harm him! Dogs like about anything, why not HOT DOGS it just his style and has his name! You take care! Have a good week! Jimmy.

If you dog has been sick I wouldn't feed them to him, you should have him on a plain diet of dog food, people food is really not good for dogs, also being a lab, they tend to put on a lot of weight, with all that processed 'crap' in the hot dogs, id say bad idea.

If he has been ill a greasy fat filled hot dog is NOT a good idea. Besides the tons of fat there is also WAY MORE salt than a dog needs. If you want to hide his pills in something, buy a brick or block of cheddar cheese. Better yet, learn to give him his pills without treats or tricks.
Even for a healthy dog hot dogs are NOT a wise choice.

hot dogs arent very different to the crap that goes into dog food anyway...they are made up of parts of animals no one would et if it was just sitting there by itself...eye balls colons and other organs...dog food is made up of meat that is considered unacceptable for human consumption...so in a way hotdogs may be better...either way, if you are only using it as a treat and not a staple food in his diet, he will be fine.
just make sure you lower his food intake abit, he is a tad over weight and this is not healthy...so less food and up the excersize and you should have one happy dog.
the strong flavour is a good idea to use as a cover up for the medicine lol smart thinking (just dont use too much hot dog in a day as they do have preservatives, which eventually can build up and cause problems so keep it down to acouple of pieces)

My dogs get all of their pills in hot dogs- and we use hot dogs as bait in the show ring... I think they are a great treat. And there are times when we are so busy at the dog show that they have come in handy as lunch for us humans as well! LOL... but I am not kidding!

I have been told by a vet to use hot dogs or cheese to get a pill in a dog. Its probably no the best food for them in general, but if it gets the medicine in its probably worth it.

yuck...they got to be some nasty hot dogs @40 for $1.14......not that any hot dogs are good for dogs.
And probably why he weighs 95 lbs. much too heavy for a lab.

Edit: from AKC ....Approximate weight of dogs and bitches in working condition: dogs 65 to 80 pounds; bitches 55 to 70 pounds
