And if you start off with a small church and it grows, do you think the Pastor should turn people away because a lot of people do not except large churches?

Diamond.... have you been to every mega church and do you know the finances that goes with having a large building and tithing is God's will. Preaching to tithe is just like preaching about everything else.

Diamond...... another thing, do you really think that having luxury is a bad thing? Then all rich people are evil and poor people are good. That does not make since. Don't you think God would want the Church to look nice?

Trix.......why are people keep talking as if pastors of mega churches preach differently than that of a small church? I may not be able to get help or talk to the senior pastor of the church but everyone in the church has a reverend that they can talk to when needed. My church had saved almost 3000 souls on Pentacost Sunday. My pastor church started off small and grew. Try attending these churches instead of criticizing them because they have money. With the money that my church brings in we send several teenagers to college, help people start their own business, we went in the neighborhood on every Saturday this summer to clean the yards of residents, gave out racks of clothes, gave supplies to shelters and much more.

I think God wants HIS church to be HUGE! Filled with as many people as will come to him.

It's the church people that don't want big churches... and that is sad. I wonder who they should make leave??!

Good question! A star for you!

The Assembly of God is a pentecostal denomination that has many smaller fellowships or congregations associated with it. The number of members in mega churches vary. Some say it's 6,000, and some say the number is greater. Personally, I prefer small fellowships because I can interact with the members individually. There are some mega churches that are indeed great places to grow in Christian maturity. Pastor Rick Warren's Saddleback Community Church is an example.

Citation of Pentecost in the context of your question is most unwise. Historically the true God followers aren't found in huge congregations. Historically those of a generation who choose to follow all and every God's will are a tiny group of faithful.

Jesus Himself said to the multitude which followed Him day and night in Galilee that the reason they sought Him was not because of salvation and eternal life yes because of free fish and bread.

The same happens with this multitude today that fill up those mega-churches. There is no salvation of sin message over there. There's no call from the preacher to the multitudes to the effect they turn away their sins and be saved.

The message that emanates from those preachers doesn't make people repent of their bad dids and ask God pardon and healing.

Their messages are of another kind.

In Pentecost 3,000 souls of divers languages different of the language spoken by Jesus disciples were baptised because they were convinced of their sins reason why they were baptised.

That was a signal of God's power using the Holy Spirit gifts: the gift of people understanding a message in Hebrew in their mother tongues.

Anything that happened in Pentecost isn't possible to be seen in such mega-churches.

Mega churches who have TVs and speakers everywhere, etc. are not unholy...just impersonal.

A small church that only has a few hundred people in it is good, because everyone knows each other. I'm sure there are people in the mega churches who don't even know that some people go to their church.

In my town there are 7 United Methodist churches, a few years ago people were talking about making one huge church that would seat a thousand or so people...but they decided not to because it would make it impersonal between the people in the congregation.

Mega-Churches irritate me because they are full of luxury and it seems like all the pastor talks about is bringing in more revenue. And they still feel the need to make their parishioners feel bad about something and slander all the 'worldly people' instead of being all thankful and welcoming.

the bible says that 3000 were converted and baptised. probably because they preached the truth. Not a gospel of luxury and mega bucks big houses fancy cars that is not the gospel of Christ.

They heard the Word of God, the Words spoken by Jesus and they believed in the Words. You do not hear the Word of God you hear eveyones words except those Words Jesus spoke.

Charisma and religion can convince people to do a lot of stupid things. Look how Hitler wielded it in Germany...
