Each day I give my life to the Lord to use me and change my heart toward people. This happens easier when I immerse myself in the Bible and ask for guidance each day.
It gets easier to see people through HIS eyes when I take my eyes off of myself.

I'd say it doesn't really require a supernatural power, just a good head.
If you can pay attention to how you're acting and consciously stop hating, lusting, etc because you realise what you're doing then you've got a pretty sound mind. Most people are just a**holes because they don't think about what they say before they say it and they certainly don't consider the consequences.
Technically the natural result of feelings is not really actions, it's just stronger feelings if you let it get out of control. For example - my sister has a friend who's head is so far up his a** that I really feel like smacking him around a bit and telling him what a d*ck he is, fortunately (for him) I realise the consequences of this and I don't act on my feelings. Since I don't believe in supernatural powers or deities I'd have to say this is purely through my own conscious thought that I control myself.

All people have the power of CHOICE. A person can change their disposition or inclinations when a person chooses, but some times a person stays in a mode without effort or consciousness of it.
A person that is going to be good and tries to follow the golden rules will always struggle and consistently working to fight off evil thoughts and evil ways.
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!
GOD BLESS! AMEN! SHALOM!

I don't believe that it's easy to change our inclinations but it can be done. Loving someone is a choice. Of course, I'm not speaking about the warm/fuzzy, touchy/feely kind of love, but rather the agape love that is deposited into those who accept Christ as their Saviour and Lord.
To manage/control these feelings that dictate our actions and reactions, we first need to change our thought patterns. We need to be getting our thougts, priorities, and ways in line with God's ways (which are higher than ours) and by changing our thinking we can change our feelings.
God bless.

I have no hate, no jealousy, no lust, nor do I covet. I honor my parents(those on earth and my heavenly parents as well. I love all people regardless of our differences. Yes one can turn their backs on sin and lead a reasonably sin free life. My sin is patience(mainly from a hormonal imbalance, menopause), and sometimes anger. It is good that we can look inside of ourselves to see what is wrong and correct those problems.

Sure I do it all the time these days. But it took me about 64 years to learn how happy it can make you to not hate, or covet (be jealous): but instead to rejoice when someone else is lucky or learns a new skill, or get's a good report from the doctor. - It took me a long time to understand what my dad used to say "we will all rise together or sink together" --- emotionally it seems so true -- now. -- chagrin (Uncle Wayne)

First you must learn self-control. Without that, it is impossible to civilize yourself.
Take, for example, a dog. A well-trained dog can accomplish a lot more than a feral dog running around in the wild.
People are the same. Those who rely on external means to 'save' them remind me of feral cats and dogs who are put in cages and look for opportunities to 'sin' and go off the deep end.
But those who are reared to become responsible people who are reality-based instead of fantasy-based don't have these problems. It's not necessary to hate, blame the devil, refuse to admit it when wrong, need 'salvation' or 'Jesus' and so on. I know tons of people who don't have these drama queen issues, don't drink to excess, do drugs, screw around with other people's spouses or partners, cheat on their taxes, or steal from their employers. Tons!
The interesting thing is that none of them are religious, or judgmental, or think that they are wonderful or special. So when are the rest of you gonna wake up?

true love is a choice, much more than it is a feeling. think about Jesus, how could he love us, the people who put him on the cross, the reason he went through all that suffering? especially when we are as ungrateful and acknowledging as we are. but he chooses to love us in a way we will never comprehend nor deserve. that is the kind of love we must extend to all our neighbors, especially the unlovable ones.

I beg to differ, and hold up the fact that I never murdered my ex-husband as proof.
