well its up to you i have 11 cats and more kittens due next week and there is about 4 coming in that litter but i have had 19 so i suppose i am the crazy cat lady.

The "crazy cat lady" is more than just cats. She's the crazy lady with a bunch of cats that:

* never leaves the house
* doesn't talk to anyone BUT the cats
* lives in a dirty house full of cat poo and empty cat food containers
* when she does leave the house, she smells of cat urine

One can own as many cats as they like so long as the cats are healthy, living in a clean environment, are properly cared for, have regular trips to the vet (or the vet makes regular trips to the cats because when you have lots of cats, it's a pain to get them all to the vet), and are not considered unhealthy.

I have 4 adult cats (2 males, 2 females) of different ages (14, 6, and 2 of them are 3 .... sisters). They are all clean and healthy, taken to the vet for emergencies, I bring the shots home for annual vaccinations, and the vet comes to my house for regular check-ups. I will be getting 2 more cats this week or on the weekend (6 weeks old) that will go straight from the ranch they are on to the vet for shots & exam then to my house. I also have 50+ fish (the + is because they breed and I can't keep count) in a huge fish tank and 2 horses.

I don't consider myself or my wife to be "crazy cat people" and neither do any of our friends. We keep our house very clean at all times with the exception of normal everyday traffic. Carpets and furniture a cleaned daily, as well as litter boxes and food dishes. There is no "cat smell" in our house.

As long as it's healty, it's alright.

If you live in town and plan to keep them as inside cats only then the answer is 3. You don't really need more than 2 but they are cute so I say 3. More than 3 and your house will be filled w/ cat hair. If you live in the country and the cats go outside then 7.

I think nine is OK. When you get into double figures then your are crossing some kind of line.

But you only qualify as a crazy cat lady if you have a smelly house and are incapable of appearing in public wearing smart, hair-free, black clothes.

Haha. This is a good question. If you live in the city limits, depending upon your city (for example, it's 4 pets in my city), then I'd say if you go over the limit and are harboring pets illegally, then you're a crazy cat lady. If you're legal, and your home doesn't smell like a litter box, and you can give each cat the love that he/she deserves, then you're still normal. If you're just collecting cats and you don't really know one from the other, then you've crossed over into the realm of crazy.

I've been the crazy cat lady
several times in my life.
Currently, I only have 4.
You know in some places,
you are only supposed to have
a certain number of pets,
not just cats or dogs but other pets.
I figured as long as you took care
of them, took them to the Vet
and they were well fed
and fixed so you didn't
have boo-coos of kittens
every 60 days or so, it was ok.
Not any more.
I think, if they are going
to limit pets,
they should also limit
how many kids you can have
and if you are living on the welfare system
after your 2nd kid,
then this person needs to be fixed also.

In Las Vegas, I thought I heard there's a law that you can't have more than four. To become a crazy cat lady, you need at least 10 I'd say. For ultimate crazy cat lady-ness, you need 25. My cousin owns a farm of cats. I forget how she got them. She doesn't raise them for anything, they just live in her backyard and multiply.

well i use to have around 30 to 35 cats and really there is no maximum to how many cats to have before they call u crazy cat lady unless u are over 50!! lata

the answer is alway one more cat than an individual has. for me the number is 3-thats cause I have 2 cats. my friend at work says 5, cause she has 4 cats

It depends. If you have 30 cats and they're all well fed, they all get regular veterinary visits, they are all happy, the cat boxes are cleaned daily, then it's not too many. But if you have 1 cat and it's poorly fed, never sees the vet, has a filthy cat box, that's too many.
