no. its quite the opposite. it usually makes them smell worse. I'm thinking if it works for fleas, its only because they all get washed off in the ocean. lol.

I don't think so.
But I am experimenting with dandruff shampoo on my dog who had some sort of mites on her back by her tail. The kind I use is off-brand Wal-Mart Dandruff shampoo with Pyrethrione Zinc. The pyrethrione is an extract from the calendula and chrysanthemum flowers that kills fleas and insects but is fairly safe for animals. The zinc helps heal the skin. So far it's working pretty good, just so long as I only zap that one spot.
You might want to try it for killing fleas and getting rid of the smell. A bath every 3 days should get rid of the fleas - be sure and clean up the areas where the dog sleeps most, spraying flea poisons and vacuuming the carpet every day. It takes a couple weeks to get rid of all of the live fleas.
Program is a medication you get from the vet that does not kill fleas but prevents them from laying fertile eggs. The eggs don't hatch, the fleas don't multiply, you'll see less and less during the cold winter months. It takes time, but if you keep up on it you can rid the dog and house of fleas.
Good luck. Fleas and cockroaches are the worst for trying to eliminate. But try the dandruff shampoo first.

Yuck no, who'd want their dog smelling of sea water!

As for the flea treatment theory - that would be based on the myth that salt kills fleas. It doesn't - if you have a flea problem, get an actual treatment from a vet. They're very hard to kill - certainly can't be killed by myths.

I have never heard this before but I bet it would probably make it worse.
