I want to know what other gifts come from being baptized in the Holy Spirit other than tongues and interpretation. I have somewhat of an idea but I'm trying to get more knowledge in this area. Thank you.

I do not believe that spiritual gifts are a thing of the past. I believe all Christians are given these gifts according to God's will as the Bible says. I know I can speak in tongues for my own prayer time for example. I know that I have other gifts that are mentioned but I'm working on getting closer to God and discovering them.

I don't speak in tongues at church except in a whisper maybe to not be heard. It is my personal prayer language. Only some people are supposed to speak in tongues in church and someone else or they must then interpret what is said so that it can be of use to the church. (aka interpretation.) This is in response to someone who answered.

1 Corinthians 14: 22-25- " Tongues, then are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers; So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understand comes in while everybody is PROPHESYING, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all, and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, "God is really among you!""

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 " Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kings of tongues, and to still another the interpretations of tongues. ll these are the work of one and thee same Spirit , and He gives them to each one, just as He determines."

For more information continue to read past Vs. 11, it does not continue to list the gifts of the Spirit but how they work together.

Hi.
My 2 cents.
If you look at the context of the word 'Spirit' (i.e. Holy Spirit) in the Old and New Testament, what you will find is that the Spirit relates to Prophecy. That's what it means to be a Prophet, one who is touched by the Spirit, and therefore inspired to speak God's Word. But sometimes prophets are inspired not so much to speak, as to act, such as Elijah in the Old Testament.
So first among the gifts of the Spirit is Prophecy, of which 'Apostle' is a kind of prophet (a prophet sent to a particular place to deliver a message. 'apostolos'= 'one who is sent') After that you have teaching, exhortation, giving, etc. but really these all have to do with being a prophet.

People today think that Jesus came to make us all Christians so we could go to church and sing hymns and take communion. In reality Jesus came to Baptize His followers in the Holy Spirit— I.E. to make them Prophets. That's what John the Baptist was all excited about, and that's what the Disciples looked forward to and ultimately experienced. That was what the Church was for the Apostles, a community guided by the Spirit, a Prophetic Community. Look at Acts 2 and you'll see what I mean. There are many other examples of this. Read through the Gospels, especially Matthew and John, many examples. So, for the early Church ('Edah— 'Assembly' a concept that goes back to the Tribal habits of the Hebrews) Christians ('Meshihiya') were prophets in the tradition of the great prophets of the Old Testament, but witnesses and partakers in a new and unprecedented outpouring of the Holy Spirit— the Baptism of Jesus the Messiah which in power and by the Spirit would transform the World.

These were only two of the gifts, that were given as signs to Jews and if you read the passage you will find out the rules and how it was to b done. The bible says an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after signs as well and that signs were given to the Jews. Where are all the people with the gifts of healing and prophesy? I've never seen Benny or anyone else heal a cripple. They are all phonies although God can answer prayer and heal someone but to say it was by a person with a gift is absurd. For all the people who base tongues off of one unclear verse what about the verse that says " it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church" and that " she is to be silent and always under subjection" ? Explain that away if you want but it is in the bible and our views make no difference but it is clear that if you are a woman if you are speaking in tongues at church it is not of God. People bark as well at churches and say that is of God.

If your question is mearly academic - you may want to browse some of these passages and check the references you find at each:

teaching

1 Corinthians 12 Gifts
administration
apostle
discernment
faith
healing

knowledge
miracles
prophecy

If you are interested in what your own spiritual gift(s) might be - there are some good sites on the internet that might point in a direction. Sites like http://www.elca.org/evangelism/assessments/spiritgifts.html
but experince has taught me that the best way to find your spiritual gift is finding a good Bible-teaching church and get seriously involved - exploring various areas like church school - singles - missions - or whatever might be available. Do a lot of praying about it and don't prejudge any possiblities. (I wanted to be a small country church pastor and wound up in prison ministry) Seek the Lord, Learn his Scriptures, learn to pray, stay in good company and live a life worthy of Him. Then keep your eyes and ears open to what He might be showing you - all the while trusting He will - but be patient - it doesn't all happen overnight. Trust too - that as you seek in various areas that He will use whatever you learn in the process. One caution - don't ever get involved in too many things at the same time. Too many people doing too many things without really being effective in any of them.

There are many places in the Bible that mentions gifts of the Holy Spirit and it is hard to give a complete list. Here is an incomplete list off the top of my head. Many have already been listed by other posters.

Prophecy, healing, pastoring, teaching, service, hospitality, generosity, worship, intercessory prayer, fellowship, grace, wisdom, faith, righteousness, and every aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control -- Gal 5:22-23).

The gifts of the Spirit are given according to the Will of God for your life. The Gifts of the Spirit are intended to benefit the entire Body of Christ. Whatever gift He gives you is in direct relation to God's plan for your life and ministry to those around you. If what He has in mind for your ministry does not include tongues or pastoring, He will not give you those gifts. He may give you a gift later in life that you do not need for what He has planned for you now, but will then. The Fruit of the Spirit is given to each believer as we all need to use them.

(There are two types of "Tongues"...the personal prayer tongue and the Tongue which needs interpretation for the church or body of Christ...) :)

The Gifts of the Spirit are:Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Discerning of spirits, Divers Tongue, and Interpretation.

All within 1 Corinthians 12:8-10

Now, it says that "to one" gets this, and to another gets that, but, at any given time, if you are in need, God will give you one or more of the Gifts until they aren't needed for that time, then, they fall away until needed again.

Each person has one particularly strong Gift that stays, but, as I said, when in need, the others are in evidence. :)

The more you use the Gifts, and the more your cup is filled, you are given more and more. :)

But, as one dear Disciple had said, I wish that all could have the personal tongue...it is VERY manageable...just as with ANY prayer, you can do so silently or aloud...it edifies and strengthens the individual Christian, which in turn, strengthens the BODY of Christ by making the individual a strong addition to the Body of Christ....so, don't let anyone claim it is worthless...plus, it prays when we ourselves cannot do so...and has been a lifeline for many of us....

God Bless! :)

P.S. Don't forget the Fruits of the Spirit as well...they are just as important :)

***I wish to make a comment for the benefit of at least one whom has made comments about women and the church...

When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, you become a "bride" of Christ, whether man or woman.... God's Holy Spirit makes us all ONE, neither Jew nor Greek, Male or Female, and all have the same relationship with God and Jesus.... Since Christ is our "Groom", He is the "MAN" that we answer to...if He says "speak", we may speak... if He says "teach", we teach, etc.,. If in doubt, ask God about this. Thank you, and God Bless. :)

There are no guarantees as to what gifts the Holy Spirit will bestow. Not even tongues or interpretation. The Spirit blows where it will. Just let God decide. If you want to know what gifts there are, read the Bible. Prophecy, teaching, and lots more.

There are two baptisms.

Luk 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

The first is by water done by flesh man.

The second is by the Holy Spirit. Act 2:1-4 was a type/example of what it will be like at the last Pentacost. "Fire" is symbolic of truth, the sharp twoedged sword Rev 1:16.

To be baptized by the HOLY SPIRIT happens only one time at the very end of this dispensation of time.

Joe 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Joe 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

This also speaks of the HOLY SPIRIT speaking threw GOD's elect.

Mar 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Mar 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Being baptized by fire or another words the Holy Ghost, in its self only gives you the ability to have the Holy Ghost as a constant companion, if you are worthy. The Holy Ghost will not reside in unholy temples. You need to stay clean of sin and iniquity to enjoy the companionship of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is responsible for such things as prophesy, Gift of tongues, understanding, and a sure knowledge of Jesus Christ, as well as sure knowledge of other things like the scriptures. A lot of Gifts are given to different people and are as said; gifts. A gift is often given with out regard to a behavior or a payment, so many of the gifts God gives, are given to many who do not recognize from whom it came and will stand accountable for that gift during judgment, if used to hurt or wrong anyone. still other will have to stand accountable for not using their gift. They will then have that gift taken from them and given to another who magnified his own gifts. There are many gifts, the trick is to understand the gift you were given and to learn how to use it the way Jesus wants you too.

1 Corinthians 12
1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Read on in this chapter. You may find it rich in knowledge.
