I know exactly what you're talking about and yes, I do believe many people calling themselves followers of Christ use this as an excuse to not love the unloveable or especially I hear "I just cannot forgive that." This coming from Christians?! The Word tells us that if we are unable/unwilling to forgive then we are not forgiven by our Father.
While we are under the new covenant of grace, Christ did leave us with COMMANDMENTS, not suggestions. First, love the Lord with all your heart.... and Second, to love your neighbor as yourself.
We need to walk the walk of salvation--Christ said to "take up YOUR cross and follow Me." That suggests to me that I'm probably gonna have to do some painful stuff, like choose to love those who are so easy to love and forgive those things that seem unforgiveable.
Blessings to all.

Too much? The Bible says " For by GRACE are ye saved through faith and that not of yourself, it is a GIFT of GOD not of WORKS lest anyone can boast." Christians are sinners, but they have been saved by GRACE!! Seems you have it all figured out as well, although maybe some of the so called christians actually never accepted the free Gift of God so have no business calling themselves christians in the first place. We're all going to stand before God and answer for our actions so maybe concentrating on our own faults would be better than pointing out others. The best an unsaved person can do is still considered as filthy rags to God, and that is a verse so for all those people trying to do enough good deeds it's pointless as it won't get them anywhere. That is the reason why Jesus had to die on the cross as a sacrifice because He's the only One without sin.

I've never personally heard Grace used in this way. Most of those I know who apply some fuction to it say Grace is what prevents people from getting struck down Old Testament style when they cut up, not that it gives people license to do whatever they like.

that kind of thought, thinking they are still sinners, causes the thought that they couldnt possibly do what Christ said that they can do through Him.
.
but if they relied on God's grace - (His ability made available), then they'd be able to do what Christ said they can do.
.
what they are doing is relying on God's mercy to forgive them for not relying on God's grace.

I think grace, the word - is just as misunderstood as the word 'god' is
you are not to give grace, but live by grace and hold others to a higher standard as the parable of the man who was forgiven of much did to his petty borrower of cash did

Christians are saved by faith through grace, not by works, lest any man should boast. But faith without works is dead so believers in Christ are called to live out their faith through their works. Avoiding obedience is not the Christian walk.

Some do, some do not.
Matthew 5:20 Jesus was speaking
"For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shell not enter the kingdom of heaven."

I understand exactly what you are saying but the sad truth is that the people you are describing are not Christians.
