Joseph Smith in the pearl of great price wrote "18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.” "

If all the denominations were corrupt why did he join the methodist church in 1828?

cadisneygirl76 - I believe it is the duty of Christians to point out false religions and lead people to Christ so they can go to Heaven. That being said you did not answer the question.

Amanda M - My goal is not to upset people. My goal is to deliver them from a false religion.

nosleepthree - yes but he claimed to get revelations starting when he was 14 or 15.

nosleepthree - Actually I truly believe mormons are not saved because of their beliefs. Thus trying to lead people away from mormonism and to Christianity is a worthwhile endeavor.

cadisneygirl76 - You said "I dont care if the Prophet tomorrow said that we should believe the Easter Bunny is truly real. I would still rather believe in the mormon faith then believe in a God that would cruelly condemn good people to an eternity of fiery hell." You just stated you do not believe in the God of the Bible. And you wonder why I say mormons are not Christians. The only thing I have against mormons is they claim to be Christians while leading people to Hell.

cadisneygirl76 - If the following is not a description of Hell and sinners being cast into it what is it?

Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Are you sure that Joseph Smith actually joined the Methodist Church or did he just think it was the closest to the truth?

I can not find where it says Joseph Smith joined the Methodist Church after he had the Revelation.

Even if he did join the Methodist Church, what would be wrong with that. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( Mormons) was not formed yet and he wanted to go to the church which he considered closest to the truth even though he knew they were not completely true.

Why do you care so much about what mormons believe if you dont have any desire to be a mormon?
Why dont you focus on what you believe in instead of focusing on how to tear down what others believe in?

Edge I have read enough of your questions and answers to realize that you just have a chip on your shoulder against the mormon church. You have read the Joseph Smith story, come to your own conclusions. I honestly dont think you will ever accept a mormons answer to anything because you will always have a counter as to why their answer was wrong. You wont accept the fact that diff sects have diff interpretations of the Bible or what it means to be a Christian. You wont accept the fact that mormons dont deserve to go to hell, it seems. It doesnt matter to you that I go to church and read the Bible. It doesnt seem to matter that I have done a lot of charity work over time and that I try to live my life in a christlike manner. It doesnt seem to matter to you that I believe Christ is my savior and that thru the atonement I can live with my Heavenly Father again. Because no matter how good a person I am or how much I believe in God or in Christ according to you and your God I deserve to go to hell. Do you really think any mormon would ever ever convert or see your way of thinking given how incredibly cruel your God seems to be?
I dont care if the Prophet tomorrow said that we should believe the Easter Bunny is truly real. I would still rather believe in the mormon faith then believe in a God that would cruelly condemn good people to an eternity of fiery hell.

once again YOUR INTERPRETATION of the Bible and of hell
My interpretation is much more consistant with a loving God than yours.

Thanks for trying to save those Mormons. You sure are using your life wisely. 13+ Million fooled souls. I'm glad you found this fact because it proves everything. Even if it is false, it sure sounds good. However, next time you do it, tell them that Joseph Smith raised his hand and swore the Methodist was the true church. That way it really looks like he "joined".

We are to 'prove all things', so I admire your question. I don't know for sure if he did join the Methodist church or not but my overall view of his writings leads me to wonder if he was psychologically disturbed. Some people who have suffered severe trauma in their lives claim that they have heard and even seen God. Such delusions are very sad, and it's even worse when other people believe it also.

He did not join the Methodist church, or any othe church.

He attempted, in Pennsylvania, to join the Sunday School, to appease Emma's father. But they wouldn't let him join.

He didn't form his own church until 1830.

P.S. If you were serious about leading everyone to Christ, you'd be addressing remarks to people who don't already believe in him. You're not in here to "preach the true gospel," you're here to prove that your point is correct and everyone else's is wrong. Don't pretend you're being noble, because no one is buying it.
