England is a tough place to live. I do not agree that the two were attacked because they were LDS. They were attacked because the perps were wild and lawless.
There was an incident last week where some thugs were arrested or sentenced (in England) for throwing rocks at an old man and killing him.

Well, I went to Puerto Rico, and I could say the local weather is on the whole very similar to Los Angeles. I could say, make the effort to pay attention after praying on a steady groundwork for the reason that Los Angeles has had a large development in gangs and crime, and you are going to desire to stick nontoxic. If you have not watched "God's Army" - the primary and the moment one, that would aid as they're set in Los Angeles. One factor we did in Puerto Rico for a even as to stick extra targeted at the missionary paintings was once to maintain simply sooner or later for studying mail from residence. That was once tough in the beginning for the reason that you might get letters any day of the week however now not learn them immediately. I suppose that handiest lasted a couple of weeks. The extra you're obedient to the principles, the extra concept you get approximately in which to move and the right way to remedy issues. Resist the tendency to "acquire" stuff, or ship it residence instantly. The extra you'll be able to shop earlier than you pass, the higher, in case of emergencies. Read the books they let you know to - like "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder" and "Jesus the Christ" and the Bible. You can continuously begin practising answering questions approximately the Church earlier than you pass. Also, simply to can help you understand, it doesn't matter what men and women convey up, there may be continuously an reply if you recognize in which to appear.

That's horrific. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine. He's from Cali and came over to England and served in Hull. He had knocked on a door and a woman answered, she was on her own so they left her alone (as is the protocol) and gave her a pass-along card. Later that day, the Elders were walking through the Centre when this woman saw them and told her (i assume) boyfriend that my friend had tried to pick her up. The guy and several of his friends beat up on him and left him unconcious on the floor.
Poor guy moved to our Ward but only stayed there for a few weeks before deciding to head back home.
It sickens me to think that anyone thinks they can lay their hands on people in such a way. Especially these guys who take two years out of their lives for selfless service.
The people responsible should be truly ashamed.

Even the thugs in the worst neighborhoods here (Houston) haven't started beating missionaries senseless for no reason. Then again, the elders here don't stay out after dark if they don't have cars. They also don't interfere with (or talk to) large groups of gang members.

This is genuinely horrible. I've been mugged before, too, at gunpoint, and it's terrifying.
At the same time, I wonder how many other people were randomly beaten up in Bolton that week. While it's rotten for the Mormons, they are probably not unique. In a town where such a thing can happen so easily, it probably happens often.

(Incidentally, I initially thought I was being beaten up because I was gay.)

No, I hadn't heard, since my work hours kind of leave out watching the news on a regular basis. Maybe the Osmonds' 2008 tours planned in England will help educate people.

Sad, but always a possibility. Missionaries need to take special precautions, keep the mission rules to the letter, and not be provocative in any way. Not that these two Elders didn't, but it's a lesson to all missionaries that even when they do everything that they are supposed to, they can still find themselves in trouble.
It sounds as if they responded appropriately, forgave their attackers, and are back doing the work. God bless them.

Thats a bummer.
I hope they are able to finish their missions without incident.
Wouldnt expect this to happen in England.
Mike
are you really using this issue as a soundboard to bash on missionaries and what they are doing after they were just brutally attacked??????
Give me a break and have an ounce of compassion

Nothing that suggests they were attacked because they were LDS. They were beaten because they were dressed nice and the hooligans wanted someone easy to hit. Hopefully the punks will get caught and the victims will heal.
