For VGA you don't need separate speakers, you need separate Speaker WIRE.

Before you make this big decision, what inputs do you have on your TV? Most TVs only have HDMI and not VGA.

1) HDMI is better than VGA because HDMI is digital and goes up to 1080p. HDMI only works for audio if you plan on listening to audio through your TV.

2) VGA comes with audio cables (red/white). The audio cables go to your TV or sound system.

If you want surround sound, you need a separate sound system and speakers.
