They pick you by DMV records. I don't think there's an age limit. Unless you're seriously disabled or sick you have to go.

18 and over of course. I thought you meant being too old. There's no age limit after that.

names used to be picked from voter registration lists, but many people refused to register to avoid jury duty. NO ONE is going to give up the right to drive just to avoid jury duty, so now they use driver's license lists. You must be 18, and if called, you go and they call lists of names from all jurors there that day to serve for particular cases being tried that day. Both attorneys ask prospective jurors questions to make sure all those who hear a case will be fair. This process is called VOIR DIRE--the judge will explain it before attorneys question anyone-- and either attorney can challenge a juror to prevent them from serving. It is very interesting and educational, plus--YOU GET PAID for serving.

I don't know specifically about New York, however in general for most states persons are selected for jury duty if they are registered voters. Meaning they must be 18 yrs of age to vote and therefore also be selected for jury duty. :) Unfortunately I have a guy friend who refuses to register to vote for that reason, he doesn't want to be selected for jury duty. lol. Typically its just a random pull of persons. Some may have jury duty multiple times in their lives, while others may have only been called for jury duty once or even never at all! Its very hit and miss. To be honest if you are called to jury duty and have a legitimate real reason you can't be there, they most often try to be understanding and let you get out of it if they can get a fill in or don't need jurors. :)

I'm not sure specifically about NY, but I'll bet it's 18 age minimum. And you have to go. One thing I have noticed in my long life, is they seem to pick the same people. Most never get called in their lives, while some get called 4 or 5 times. Usually the Driver's Licence Bureau does this, supposedly randomly.

You have to be 18 years of age and they use DMV lists, as well as tax payer roles.
