I was out walking my dog this afternoon about 4pm and I walked past a car and saw a girl about 7 years old sitting in the back seat by herself. I stopped and looked around pretending my dog was doing something to see if there were anyone near by but the street was empty. I saw this lady who was delivering pizza's come out of a apartment building and get into the car and drive away.

I don't think I would leave a 7 year old alone in a car unless I was right outside. It just kind of irked me the wrong way. What do you think?

There are NO excuses and NO circumstances to ever leave a child (or a pet) in a car. it is just outrageous and wrong.

Here's a little story to answer this question. When I was in law school, I worked as a clerk for the District Attorney for the Career Criminal Sexual Assault Unit. Very horrific crimes. One particuarly terrible crime involved a little girl...two and a half years old...who was abducted, raped, mutilated and left in a creek where two dogs found her and dragged her home with them. Again, horrible.

Where was she when she was abducted? Inside of her mother's car at a bank. Her mother was about ten feet away with her back to the running car. She was at an ATM machine. In the time it took for her to do her transaction, someone grabbed the baby out of the car and took off. She was never seen alive again.

Sorry to be so graphic. I hope that answers the question for everyone. There simply is not excuse to leave a kid in a car.
EVER.

EDIT FOR THE FOOL GIVING EVERYONE THUMBS
DOWN.

If you think it's a good idea to leave kids alone in the car, please let me know where and when you do it so I can call the cops and have you busted.

EDIT FOR JEM

Do you have any idea how much trouble your mum could get into for giving you the keys to a car and permission to drive after leaving an 11 year old alone?

I think you’re making way too much of this.

If this were an infant/toddler, you’d have a VERY VALID point…but it wasn’t.

If this were a very dangerous neighborhood, you’d have a point, but obviously it isn’t since you were out walking your dog.

And more than likely, the car doors were locked (I’m just assuming Mom probably told her to lock the doors).

There’s nothing appropriate about a parent leaving a 7-year-old in a car alone for *a few minutes*.

Never it's insane to leave a child in a car by all means of course in a life and death situation it is slightly acceptable
but if your going out to smoke a cigarette or talk to someone absolutely not I think their are some laws against this but I'm not completely sure.Next time you witness this report it or write the license plate number because you never know what could happen and its better to be safe then sorry.

My mum has left me in the car for a few minutes since I was 11. They leave the keys with me, and I know how to drive, so if their was trouble I could drive away. Also it's always in populated places like outside the bank on a road with lots of activity, or outside DD...

It sounds like the mother is working and had no where to leave her child while she is working... I wouldn't leave a child in a car by herself. Too many things can happen in a minute.
At least this mother is working and trying to supply for her child and not leaving her child at home alone.

my son is 6 and i have never left him in the car alone. not even o go pay for gas. i dont tink anyone should leave a child in a car alone ever, until they are about 15 or 16. maybe not even then depending on how they behave by themselves. are they responsiable enough to be left alone or are they the type to need a babysitter at any age? if you know what i mean.

I wouldn't. I live in Florida and there have been to many senseless deaths of children forgotten in cars. I know the case you're talking about was only a minute but I wouldn't even do that unless I was standing right next to the car.
