They are prophetic
we are living in the church of laodicea
they have to do with different time periods
not buildings or specific churches
the book of revelation is prophetic
john may have used real names to
illustrate things to come. read the whole chapter
you will understand then

They are in Istanbul (Turkey) and Orthodox. http://www.orthodoxphotos.com/readings/revelation/letters.shtml This is the first site I found on it. But it looks pretty full of info. Istanbul is a very secular place now not many Christians anymore, but there still is a small population from these original churches. Oh I just found this too http://www.theholyseven.org/a.htm it looks really interesting.

All the sites are in modern-day Turkey and no longer have significant Christian populations since they were emptied of Christians under the Treaty of Lausanne. It should be understood that "churches" in this context refers to the community of Christians living in each city, and not merely to the building or buildings in which they gathered for worship.
The seven churches are located in:

Ephesus
Smyrna
Pergamum
Thyatira
Sardis (the See of Sardis)
Philadelphia
and Laodicea.

They still exist, and are part of the Catholic (Universal) Church. For some reason Protestants assume that the 7 churches were different denominations. They were actually just different cities run by a Bishops in charge of those dioceses (so to speak), just like the church of Rome still exists, and is ran by the Pope, but is just another church part of the Catholic Church.

The Lord doesn't do anything unless he reveals his will to his Prophets (Apostles) No Prophets, no revealation. The Bible talks about a restoration, meaning his gospel was gone and will be restored.
