There is not living wage in NYC, but the minimum wage in NY is 7.15 an hour. And yes, many people only make it, but they have 4 roommates or find an apartment in Section 8 housing. Its tough, but doable.

no place in the US has a true "living wage". That being said, the minimum wage in NYC is a little less than $8, which is certainly not enough to live in Manhattan at all or in any borough without roommates...

want to live confortable, go San Francisco, minimun wage $9.75, highest in the nation, shared rent $500 to $600 per room.
