People always say Jehovah's Witnesse are a cult.

A CULT is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader.

In my opinon, I think Catholics are part of a cult. They seem to follow, believe and worship(even kiss his the pope's ring!) the pope even more than they worship God.

Well a cult is a religion that follows and worship a man, and the pope is a man. so I guess you have a point. I guess you can put Jw's as a cult too, because we claim to follow Jesus, and Jesus was a man. Philippians 2:5-10 LOL Just kidding, JW's are not a cult, we don't follow and man today, if we were a cult then who is are human leader alive today.

They ARE a part of Christendom.

Reasoning from the Scriptures:
Are Jehovah's Witnesses a sect or a cult?
Some define SECT to mean a group that has broken away from an established religion. Others apply the term to a group that follows a particular human leader or teacher. The term is usually used in a derogatory way. Jehovah's Witnesses are not an offshoot of some church but include persons of all walks of life and from many religious backgrounds. They do not look to any humans, but ratherto Jesus Christ, as their leader.

A CULT is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for whats orthodox, however, should be God's Word, and Jehovah's Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people.

Pastor Billy says: Guilty as charged, Catholicism is a cult, the cult of Jesus Christ. The first Judaic sect which professed a belief in the One God was also...a cult.

Perhaps you meant to say occult and didn't know any better that happens a lot with anti-Catholic types. They lack a knowledge of not only culture but history and language etc etc...

As Trinity doctrine is of Catholic origin there is absolutely no doubt of whom Catholicism professes is God and that means the bishop of Rome, the Pope does not make the list.

You're barking up the wrong tree and I suggest you work on your delivery before attempting to slam First Christianity again.

I think most religions could be likened to cults. The word cult has specific definitions and doesn't necessary have to mean something evil. You don't know much about Catholics, it would seem. Where did you get the idea they worship the pope more than god? They're going to disagree with you there.

Most of the modern religions are off shoots of Catholicism in that they follow the trinity doctrine. So I guess you could not call them a cult in that they follow three entities, the Pope, Mother Mary, and several saints, not one person.

Who cares anyway? It's like the kettle calling the pot black.

Honestly, according to some interperetations ALL religions are cults. In practice I rarely here of what I regard as being a cult. I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Most people I talk to realise that others can have differing views without being in a cult.

The cult that killed a whole bunch of people in Guyana was quite large...cult has nothing to do with size. It has everything to do with false doctrines. Does the JW organization follow things which are not found in the Bible? Does the Catholic church follow things which are not found in the Bible?
The Watchtower Society decides what the Bible says. The Catholic Church used to do that too...
Think of the Branch Davidian/Shepherd's Rod...they started out as a Christian group, but they started to deviate from the Holy Bible. They stopped allowing the Holy Spirit to lead them, and started worshiping the leadership. Their original goals seemed to be to help to reform their parent Church members but they went off to a dangerous tangent.
Jim Jones had a wonderful mission and outreach in San Francisco. They were a Christian organization that helped countless individuals. They deviated, and stopped allowing the Holy Spirit to lead them...Jim Jones became their Jesus Christ.
Many organizations, lead by human beings, have made mistakes. This does not necessarily make them a cult. Their are devout Christians throughout the Catholic Church and the rest of her offspring, the Protestant Churches. The JW's and LDS's are two groups which believe a different gospel than the one Jesus brought to the world...though there are many within them who are earnest and will someday allow the Holy Spirit to lead them into all Truth.
Embrace the Light, and seek the Truth. Stand alone on the Word of God...the Holy Bible. Let no human organization tell you how to interpret what you can read for yourself...with prayer you ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit.
Calling church groups a cult because they are different from your own...one must be careful about rock throwing when they live in glass houses.

That's completely untrue. We venerate the Pope as the Apostles were venerated by the early Church, it doesn't go further than that. Kissing the Popes ring is a sign of respect, and it has to do with European culture. Your description of a cult is not politically correct, but most Christians do use the word for the definition you have given. Jehovah witnesses on the other hand have cult like tendencies as they will sometimes tell you what to do or who to see/ associate with, but to tell you the truth what religion doesn't have those tendencies? Though sometimes Witnesses will go to the extremes.

All religions started out as cults. Religions just don't appear with millions of followers-- they have to start somewhere with a single person who has the idea.

Nowadays anything that's not widely accepted is a cult, and anything that is widely accepted and funded by world leaders is acceptable as a religion.
