Aspirin is converted to salicylic acid when it reacts withb the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. This salicylic acid is the active ingredient in thinning the blood.

Swallowing pure salicylic acid would be really be painful and will taste really bad. So, it's taken as aspirin, the raw material for the active agent.

Aspirin is a solid substance.

If you have difficulty in swallowing, you could dissolve it in 1-4 oz of water or orange juice and drink it up.
