Depends on whether this cough & cold is a result of the common cold/flu virus, or if you actually have an allergy. There is no cure for cough & colds, only medications that relieve the symptoms. Make sure that you're always well hydrated (drinking lots of water does make a difference), soaking your toothbrush overnight in mouthwash often helps to prevent re-infection & keeping well away from other people who have the cold & cough. Also, wash your hands or use sanitizing gel after you've had contact anywhere near your mouth/nose. Check if your symptoms occur in/around the spring season, are triggered when you're exposed to certain things (like plants, animals etc), if so you probably have an allergy - get allergy tested.

Definitely vit. C and chicken soup, (homemade if you can cook), lots of juices and tea and H20. Sometimes a vaporizer can help, but if you don't have one you can pour hot water into a large bowl or container and put your head over it and cover your head with a towel and breathe in the steam. It will help to loosen everything up. Be careful that the steam isn't too hot or you could get burned. You can also check out some herbal websites or natural healing or homeopathic websites. There are many natural cures for all kinds of things on those. I don't have the name anymore cuz I changed computers and forgot about it. Good luck and I hope you feel better. :)

I do a few supplements and teas:
* Ginger tea brewed from fresh ginger root at the grocery store... boil some water, then thinly slice some ginger root and put it intp the boiling water for a few minutes, then turn off the burner and let it steep. Sweeten with honey or stevia. This will quiet the cough until it is productive, and it will help you remove congestion. It is also good to soothe the stomach upset due to post-nasal drip. You can marinate chicken in it, too!
If you have lymph node swelling, add some "blue violet leaf" tea to the regimen... it will clean out the lymph nodes.
* Supplements: Allergy-C by Twinlab, Echinacea capsules (2 or 3 per meal), Selenium, oregano oil gelcaps... all those will blow out just about anything.
* Stay away from dairy products (milk, cheese, sour cream, etc.) as they create mucous in the system. Also consider staying away from breads and grain products as they can also aggravate conditions.

You can't "cure" a cold, but you can ease the symptoms and shorten the duration. Quickly take a mega dose of Vit. C (2000 mg) tonight, drink lots of fluids (maybe not before bed!), and take another dose of Vit. C in the morning. Also helpful: have a glass of water with 1 T. apple cider vinegar in it before each meal for several days (helps to fight bad bacteria, among other healthful benefits). Continue with at least 500 mg. Vit C each morning for awhile, till all symptoms are completely gone (and continue for good measure!).

vitamin c pills are the best, as for the cough, dayquil is the best ive tried, even some of the alka seltzer cold and flue things are nice, and chicken soup, or chicken noodle soup, if you want and old school folks remedy for a sore throat you can mix alot of sugar is with some strong liquor and drink it, the sugar will coat your throat and the alcohol burns that junk away, never tried it though, but a lady i know swears by it.

If you don't have any green or yellow coming out your ok.(no infection)
I reccommend taking thera-flu
if you don't know about it it comes in different flavors and you mix it in hot water, and drink it. I use it whenever I feel like I'm staring to come down with something and it makes me feel better right away.
Hot shower will help your congestion (its the steam)
so.. hot shower, warm jammies, thera-flu and beddie bye

Acidopholys.. Buy it at your local health food store. It's a probiotic, the opposite of antibiotic. Antibiotic kills all germs, even the good germs that help your immune system, probiotics do not kill any germs, they build good germs, so your own good germs can fight the bad germs. Try It, it works
