I have a crossman .177 caliber and 675 fps. air rifle but today I went hunting for squirrels chipmunks birds etc. but when I shot them they did not die, I think it may have been because I was using wadcutter flat nosed pellts if i used the pointed pellets would it make the difference and get the kill ?

Sounds more like poor shot placement than
an inadequate gun.
600+FPS with a pellet should do the job at under
20 Yd.s or so.
You not only have to hit the animal, you have to hit
a vital area, (which is much smaller than the whole
animal).
It is not ethical to shoot at living targets without the
skill to get a clean kill.
You should stop hunting until you have the required skill.

Where did you hit the animals?
With a lower powered gun shot placement is very important.
Especially if you're going for squirrels and chipmunks. Another thing, with a lower powered gun, wadcutters versus
pointed would be the ballistic efficiency with the pointed pellets. Better areodynamics, versus the flat head wadcutters.
Range would be a big factor also, with either pellets. Just remember, don't expect magnum power from a gun that
shoots in the 675 fps range.

I have found dome shaped pellets to be very effective at delivering a lethal impact force. I suggest upgrading to a more powerful rifle with a max velocity of 1000fps in .177.

>> Pellet guns usually do not have the velocity to make a clean fast kill.

Nonsense. Most of today's air rifles are more than powerful enough to instantly kill a small animal like a squirrel or bird. It is the responsibility of the shooter to aim for a kill zone like the head or heart to ensure the animal dies quickly and with minimal suffering.

Putting aside the moral questions:

Pellet guns usually do not have the velocity to make a clean fast kill.

I do not know if you care if you are breaking city/state laws. Most cities do not allow the use of a firearm - of ANY caliber - in the city limits.

In the State of Texas, Pellet guns and other air guns are NOT LEGAL for taking any animals or birds.

That means that, if you get caught hunting with this type of gun, you can be fined $25 to $10,000 depending on the situation.

If you want to learn how to hunt safely and legally, go to the sports section of any Walmart, or to Academy, or Bass Pro or Cabellas if one is close. Ask there for someone who can help you. Take a hunters safety course.

Airsoft won't kill a squirrel, merely reason it pointless harm. some pellet weapons will take them out rapidly. the only you point out isn't one in all them. you like greater capacity, like a 22 pellet going 900-a million,000 fps, not a 177 pellet going a million,000 fps. Your gun would desire to attain a million,000 fps with a very easy pellet like a Beeman Laser. a methods much less from a heavier pellet. As for accuracyy, this chinese language gun would or won't supply the consistency of shot placement you require. you are able to decide on a greater precise, consistent rifle like Benjamin Discovery PCP, then on suitable of that the better capacity nonetheless capacity lighting fixtures out squirrel for photos you weren't somewhat "on the mark".

forget hunting animals, hunt people with airsoft guns..its so much more fun when you and your friends all play because as stated in the book the most dangerous game, man is the most intelligent (duh) thing to hunt...you can either play in a field w/ scattered trees or in the woods and just be able to go wherever you want and have teams (3 on 3 - 5 on 5 is best) or you can have fort wars where there is a distinct line you can not cross and you set forts up made out of random stuff in your back yard

It would not necessarily kill them but you would have a better chance with pointed pellets. I used to do the same thing and I always had better results with pointed pellets. So yes use the pointed ones.

Yep, I got a bird through the neck at 25 meters and killed it..... get the pointed pellets and try it again.
