Jesus never said lets put signs over the doors and be divided. A lot of people mean well, but it is not His purpose for us. It only serves to keep the body of Christ from being one.

I don't like many of the labels however, there are some huge differences between what Bible believing Christians believe and what Roman Catholic Church and Mainline Protestants Churches teach.
If you don't like labels why did you refer to yourself as a "Catholic Christian". Why didn't you say you are Christian or just a follower of Jesus?
Why even mention the denomination?
I'm a Bible believing Christian and I say that to set my self apart from those who claim to be Christians but reject the teaching in the Bible.
We have to decide is the correct definition of Christianity what is written in the Bible or not?
Or is it what the late vote was at some church council?
Or the last sermon from the Pope or Billy Graham?
If a church council, the council of what church?
The Southern Baptist Convention?
The United Methodist?
The Lutherans?
Which church council should we be listening to?
I say we need to get back to the Bible, which is God's Word and that's NOT the words of men.

Your question is interesting (makes a change on this site) Christians - like most religions - have different sects, created by interpretation of ideals and dogmas .. the term a Protestant is rather glib these days since most Protestants don't really know the meaning of the word protest(ant) .. as for 'Catholics" (your choice of word) .. strictly speaking 90% of all religions are "Catholic" since the word means 'all embracing' .. I think you're referring to Roman Catholocism .. and as for differentiating between the various forms of "Christianity" the debate is rather academic since they (you) can all be lumped together as follows of 'The Christ" Jesus who was an Aramaic Jew .. incidentally did you know that the word "Christian" should not have a capital when referred to in it's correct context .. the word means 'Leader' and the Romans referred to a group of people as 'CHRISTIANS' they did not capitalise the word .. they had no lower case letters .. so the correct title of the founder of your religion would be "Jesus the Christ"

It isn't such a bad thing to have differant named denominations. Not all christian denominations believe the same thing anyway. I don't want to sound unkind but I don't see us all as christians. Just because someone goes to church does not mean that they are a fellow christian. Catholics believe totally differant than protestants and the Catholic church knows this and considers us protestants "separated brethren" a nicer way to say that we are not one of them unless we join with them in their catholic beliefs. As soon as I became a born again christian I got rid of the baptist title that I grew up with and from then on out called my self a born again christian or just christian. No more denominational title.

We are all Christians. Catholic simply means universal. Protestant means protestation of the Catholic Church, which I'm sure you already know. We are all Christians, but it doesn't mean that everyone believes in the one Faith that Jesus taught and was preserved in the Catholic Church for 2,000 years and running.

I am a Protestant and am glad to wear the "label". I don't believe that Catholicism and Protestantism are the same. Protestants don't give traditon an equal or greater place than Biblical truth and Catholics do. The beliefs are vastly different and the label is necessary.

I can see your point here as well. I consider myself Catholic but I considered all people as my brother or sister in one form or another for we are all part of the human family and are a sacrament or outward sign of grace to all we meet.
