first of all they can get insurance which a lot of illegals dont have because they dont have a license, and who is going to benefit from this: you. because if your ever hit by an illegal they wouldnt be scared and drive off like many do, first they will have an ID which will INDENTIFY them and insurance which will pay for the damage which benefits you. now whats so wrong to give them one if it will just going to make this easier?

This is basically a question of principle. Giving them licenses will make the roads safer and reduce insurance costs for the rest of us, but it will be going against the principle of not helping those who are in the country illegally and have violated our laws. So it depends which is more important to you: upholding the long-term principles of law, or doing what is best for society in the present term.

And no, your question is not ridiculous. If someone had asked "why not free the slaves" in 1850 they would have received the exact same type of answers. I'm not saying that the two situations are the same, but it's good to see that someone is thinking outside the box.

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are ILLEGAL what part of illegal don't you understand???? I don't want them to be insured I want them to be deported. If they are driving in this country they have comitted at least two crimes, 1 by being here two by driving here.
Everybody needs to present a birth certificate and social security card to get a drivers license . Are we supposed to make an exception for ILLEGALS????
Do you realize that illegal immigration is a federal crime and that helping them to stay here is aiding and abetting in the co9mission of a federal crime and that you are asking us to participate in a CRIME????

Are you an idiot?

They would have to identify themselves just to get the license and by doing so would be showing the DMV that they are illegal onbligating the DMV to turn them in!!

What if they start voting too??? Using these licenses as valid IDs??

Do you want to give illegals the right to vote too??

Of course you do because you are a left wing nut job who doesn't think anybody should be deported ever.

Give me a break!!!

Issuing a criminal record (drivers license) to an unlawful would not seem to make any experience... yet than back quite a few the different stuff that governments do would not make any experience the two.

Some say they could get false ones anyway and somehow use them for our countries security I am wondering if the 3 million that come here from all over the world on visas and then disappear are being counted by the government. Probably not as the peter principle is running wild. The employers need to be kicked in the n*ts. We sent 4 million jobs down to Mexico alone, not including all of South America and 25% of the country is coming here. Land must be cheap.

They should have pulled a fast one and said they passed the deal Bush, Kennedy and Hillary wanted and then when they came for ssi cards arrest them and make them pay 10% of the money they send home every week. If it's so bad there and they make nothing then $500 a week is like working there six months don't be greedy go home. We must do something and 28* of them and no telling how many of the freaks from other countries these idiots let in here are crimianals. We already got our own rapist, murderers, robbers, gangsters, child predetors, animals...... we do not need anymore.

Gee the 17 mile fence in San .D. cut crime and illegals by 90% * Why won't these idiots build it?

First of all, you are either a bleeding heart Liberal or an immigrant of the illegal kind. That is the same as asking, What is wrong with a pedophile being a teacher? what is wrong with a junkie working as a pharmacist? i have been hit by regular immigrants who ran off, what makes you think that an illegal can afford to pay for insurance, they will still run off. what makes it easier is shipping them back across the border and making felons out of them for coming back across.

How do you connect having a license to having insurance? The issue is they are illegals, they should not have the rights and benefits of those that choose to come here legally.

I have absolutely nothing against immigration, the US is a nation of immigrants, but i have serious issues with those that come this country illegally and the thought that they as well as you believe they should be extended the same rights that American citizens and legal immigrants have. The saddest part of it all is that other than doing "what Americans wouldn't" in the form of dirty jobs, they do not contribute much to the economy, 90% of the money they earn under the table goes back to the country they came from, as well as taking advantage of the welfare system and medical care provided.

I really wish that there was a way to make the people that "don't see a problem" with illegals, pay for the expense of them being in the country. Wouldn't that be something, only those that agreed to allow illegals to stay paid for all the welfare, health care, schooling of their children and other cost associated with illegals. I bet serious money the tune would change with 99% of the people now claiming to see no problem with ILLEGAL immigrants.

Smart Lady.

They DO have IDs. They have fake IDs out the ying yang. Illegal aliens are not exactly your normal everyday "law abiding citizen". They are CRIMINALS.

You do not provide illegal aliens with any assistance to make their lives here in the U.S. easier. They can and must be deported. You don't bend over to THEM.

Having a license and insurance will not prevent illegals from driving away from an accident. Many do that because they fear deportation or punishment for violations other than being unlicensed or uninsured. A license would, however, give them easier access to other privileges that they are not entitled to. That is the reason they shouldn't have them. I've heard that in some areas unlicensed drivers can purchase car insurance. That's ridiculous, and I'm sure the rates are outrageous, but it is something for illegals to consider if they truly want to prove their good intentions.

There is a lot wrong with it. It gives validity to an illegal person in the U.S. along with many other opportunities undeserved as a DL holder. It is misleading. Insurance companies are providing auto insurance without legality or license so that is a mute point. No DL needed. They can be responsible about irresponsible (lol) driving if they choose to. Do you think the incidence of hit and run will slow just because they have a license...I don't. Further, a license just gives them yet another reason to pretend as if they belong in a place they don't and don't even get me going on the voting! All we need to give them is a ride or plane flight back to their own country....and even that much is being quite lenient.

Why should they get drivers licenses? They are in this nation illegally! They don't deserve the right to possess a drivers license in this nation! Besides, no one is stopping anyone from getting a drivers license in this nation - they just need to prove they are here in this nation legally.

And possessing a drivers license will not guarantee they can - or will - get auto insurance. And the reason they drive off from accidents isn't due to them not having drivers licenses or auto insurance - it is due to them fearing the police. They know that the cops will pursue them being here illegally, and could cause them to be deported.

Your logic is ill conceived, not to mention just plain ridiculous. If they would like to drive legally here in the US, then they should come here legally, and all of this would be moot.

The initial problem is that they have broken a federal law by illegal entering our country. the next problem is you still do not know who therse people REALLY are once you give them a license ie birth certificate. You want to reley on a corrupt govenment like Mexico to verify who Jose really is? A drivers license can give them the right to vote which they have not earned. Talk to any police officer or FBI agent and they can tell you the problems with this type of identification. Illegals will not get insurance regardless if they have a drivers license or not.
