Obviously this is a bit tongue-in-cheek. I'm Agnostic and my husband is perched on the Agnostic/Atheist fence. I work for a Protestant church.

The kids are 3 and 4.

Let's get some creative answers on this one!

I think that a choice of religion and/or philosophy is such an important decision that it can not reasonably be made until a person is old enough and has enough information to make a true choice.

So, in my fantasy world, I would like to see children taught about all kinds of religions and all kinds of philosophies and then, maybe around 18'ish, let them make their choice.

I explained the beliefs of all major religions to my kids just before they started school.

I did this because I knew that they were going to take some flack from the thumpers.

My son decided that Buddhism was the only one that made any sense to him.

I respect his ideas.

Love and blessings Don

Children should be raised in a basic religion that is easy to understand and participate in. A mainstream Catholic or Protestant church is good.
People I have met who grew up in extreme churches were very unhappy....you know, churches where the parents don't let their kids watch TV or listen to rock music...they grew up to be unhappy about their religious upbringing.
Basic churches are good for children. As adults, they can choose to go more extreme such as serpent handling, etc.

That depends on the age of the child and how much of a commitment you are willing to make. If you want your kid to learn tolerance then I would go with the Unitarian Universalist church. You may just want you kid to go to church for social reasons, so find out what church his friends go to and let him go there, but remember the more active you kid the more driving you’ll be doing. You teach your kids your beliefs at home and s/he can pretend to believe in wherever s/he goes. You don’t have to pretend at a UU church, but they may not have a active youth program. You have to decide what you want your kid to get out of church and don’t worry about the brainwashing with two smart parents in the house. You can keep s/he straight. If things get ugly you can always pull them out. Then again it depends on their age. Good Luck.

you chould put everything out there; Christian, Agnostic. Buddhism, Judaism, etc and let them choose for themselves later in life what THEY believe or feel most comfortable/connected with. or you could create your own "religion" based on your personal beliefs, morals and values. I feel it's very important for children to have some sort of faith, but it's the faith that matters, not what it's in.

Just raise them to be good kids. Teach them about religion, but you dont necessarily have to raise them in a certain religion, especially if it would cause problems at home. All in all just raise them in whatever way you think will help them be good people.

I saw a Christian say that aids is God's punishment for gays.

I saw a Christian say believers in evolution go to hell.

I saw a Christian say that menopause is god's punishment for sin.

I saw a Christian say that schizophrenia is demon possession.

I am not kidding. Can you believe the ignorance associated with Christianity?

Islam is also about hate and ignorance. They fly planes into buildings and force a woman to dress in an idiotic getup.

Keep your kids Free from religion.

If you want to introduce them to God, fine, but not that biblical monster.

Expose them to all religions/philosophies/systems of belief in a positive manner and let them embrace what comes naturally to them as they grow and mature.
