I am getting married in about 1 1/2 to 2 years. I hate planning things because I can get so stressed for the smallest things. I wanted to know how much might I need to hire a wedding planner? I want a wedding of about 100-120 people.

Just to clarify something, planning a wedding is stressful for everyone...I think even Mother Theresa would be stressed over something! But kudos to you for knowing when to ask for help!

Wedding coordinators go on two different pay rates.
- 10 to 15% of your total weddng budget
- Flat fee

The best wedding coordinators charge a flat fee and are usually more confident in their work. Although there are many excellent wedding coordinators who charge by percentage, spending over your assigned budget has sometimes been known to be the case. Regardless of their pay rate, be sure to get reccomendations and if you go with a percentage of your budget as a way to pay, be sure they are getting you the same discounts (i.e. ot trying to spend every last penny of the budget to increase their own paycheck).

You will need to look around for planners in your area because every area will vary in price also larger planning companies will charge more than an even planner who is a sole proprieter.

Most planners/coordinators have different packages to choose from to meet your needs. Anything from full service in which they will plan everything, to ala carte which would be an hourly rate when you need them.

For full service you can expect to pay 10-15% of your total budget depending on the area, but many planners will work with any budget.

Good luck!

i can't answer specific questions as far as costs are concerned, but i just want you to know my fiance and i have a wedding coordinator... i honestly don't know what i'd do without her. we tell her what we like and what we want, and she takes care of everything. it takes a huge stress load off of us both, especially with us both being rather busy people. it was the best move we made for this wedding!

What is more important dear....
how does your fiance feel about your inability to deal with stress? I worry that it may be a point of contention.
good luck ; - )
