They are smoking cigarettes, and they have been my friends for awhile. They won't ask me to smoke, but I don't want them to get cancer or something because I didn't try to help them quit.

Depends on what their smoking
Cigarettes: intervene, explain the dangers and offer nicotine gum and patches
Marijuana: Intervene, explain dangers, investigate their lives and its a clear downward spiral, consider telling the parents
Crack or Meth: Tell the parents ASAP

Get new friends.
Cigarette's will lead to other things, and trust me. Your young and impressionable, and you'll be sucked right down with them.

Its really hard to ..Im 16 and happened to me too with a lot of my friends...just dont do it with them, they will respect that, if not, then dont be friends with them.
