For sexual abuse, inconsisities, wearing lots of cloths expecially a fasination with socks, dont know why, masterbating alot.
Neglect of food: Rapid weight loss, dull hair, seems hungry all of the time, stashes food when no one is looking, over eating when abuse is over.
Physical and mental abuse can cause a child to feel like her or she needs extra attention, more of a purpose, needs constant ego stroking. Shys away from physical touching.

All cases are diffrent.

Depends on the individual. Some people become withdrawn and/or suicidal. Some people take their anger out on other people. Some people have a combination of both. But anger, wether turned inside or out, is the usuall the result of child abuse.
Low self esteem is also typical. Many children tend to normalize their environments, rather than believing that their parents are mean, which can be intolerable and anxiety producing, they see themselves as the source. "I'm recieving this treatment because I deserve it." Or they may have been told this outright. This belief, that they deserve bad treatment, causes them to seek out more of the same treatment into their adulthood.

The most understandable result, in my opinion, is a general distrust and lack of faith in humanity. Trust is something that is learned, and parents are the ones who teach it. A child can't learn to trust people if the people whose job it is to be trustworthy hurt them instead.

Also, depending on the form of abuse (physical, sexual, mental, emotional), an increased chance of drug abuse, promniscuity and violence.

A very low self esteem.

In extreme situations, a real terror for people, places or objects. Have you ever seen the movie Sybil? She was terrified of hooks, bare light bulb fixtures, the smell of bleach, etc., because she made the association between those objects and the individual methods or tools or surroundings related to her abuse.

Nightmares, bedwetting, regression in areas of development and behavioral problems.

It depends on what happened.

If it was sexual, then the child may have a intense distrust of all adults and live in constant fear of it happening again.

If it's physical, they may shy away from people. Afraid to let people come near and touch them in a seemingly gentle way.

If it's emotional, they won't trust many people and prefer to keep things bottled inside rather than talking to someone.

I suffered from physical and emotional abuse as a child. Today, I suffer from depression, anxiety, zero self esteem and social phobia. I have no doubt that my problems stem from my childhood.

After a child has been abused, they will probably be untrusting and suspicious of everyone around them. they will probably have hatred and their heart will be cold. if you happen to have or want to adopt and abused child, give him/her lots of love and care. show them that you really love them and woulld never hurt them. be patient. The kid will probably ignore you and cry a lot. after about 1 month or so of love, he/she should return to normal.

I think Desirea (spelling) summarized it quite well. I think I may have seen an effect of physical abuse before, it's sad. That same effect, it's odd.

Some girls that are sexually abused think that sex is the "normal" way to love. That it's the only way that a man would/could love her.
