A towel under the bowl that extends about a foot or so beyond the edge of the bowl seems to be your best bet.
Be sure to wash and dry it regularly, though. Otherwise you're looking at a mold problem and possibly some damage to the floor underneath. If you have a wood floor, every couple/few days you should remove the towel and the bowl and let a fan run at that spot for about 1/2 hour to be sure the wood is dried out. *if his bowls are on concrete or linoleum or tile then you're okay*

Also, is his bowl elevated? It's good for a dog to have his food and water bowls at neck height. It might help, but even if it doesn't it'll stop him from sucking up too much air when he drinks and eats. I use a step stool and put my dogs bowls on top of that, but there are stands with bowls in them especially for dogs (check online, Target has them, too)

Well my dog does too. He can go outside through the pet flap when he wants, so the water bowl is kept outside by the porch. If the bowl was inside, I'd place a large absorbent mat underneath, and keep it in an out of the way corner of the room. You might try filling only enough water for him to finish at one time, this way he will linger at the bowl, licking the bottom, instead of turning away with half a mouthful of water dripping across your floor.

There's no easy solution, it's going to take some work on your part. If only all our problems could be solved with just a little work.

My dog used to do that too. Our vet said to just leave the dish on the floor if the dog is really thirsty, it'll drink. It's not going to let itself dehydrate, dog's can take care of themself to an extent. However, if your dog doesn't drink still, it may be afraid of the dish, and that is why they are barking at it. My dgs often do that with foreign objects such as cups. Introduce your dog to the cup by putting a treat in the dish and having them eat it. You could also, even though you don't want to, get a stand or simply put it on a step stool. She'll break the abit eventually, but you ahve got to be consistant and tell her whose boss. Good luck.

Your question made me laugh. Our 5 year old Lab is exactly the same, he is our 4th Lab and none of the others did it. We have the water bowl on a rug but he drips everywhere, I don't think there is anything you can do except be careful when walking around so you don't slip and hurt yourself

My parents' 13-year-old lab does this. Her water bowl is in the laundry room. Whenever my dad hears her go in there to get a drink, he hurries over, and when she's done tells her to "wait." She'll sit in the laundry room until he wipes her mouth; then she's free to go about her business. I find the whole process pretty hilarious, but it works.

I have the same problem with my dogs for years. I havent come up with a good solution in all that time. I just keep a towel handy and wipe the dogs mouth off and then the floor!

My dog does the same which I got used to it. I do keep a towel by his bowl and wipe the floor afterwards. He is worth the little mess he makes after drinking his water.

Labs are smart dogs, and can be taught almost anything.

I keep a towel by my lab's water dish, and I taught her to rest her chin on it before she walks away from the dish.

I have 5 dogs, 4 labs. I have a rug I put under their bowl. I also keep the mop by their bowl. The floor stays REALLY clean.

You get used to it.

It's just something that dogs do. Maybe a towel or some sort of throw in front of the dish will help.
