bought some filets of tilapia from shoprite that looked great, and no fish smell..broiled them in a marinade and when we sat to eat them, our first tastes were such of a metallic, ammonia , strong perfumey taste. wondering what this can be, a bad batch.... or something common...

It's bad. Take it back to the store, cooked or not, or what's left of it, along w/ a receipt. Get your $$ back!

could be the fish or the marinade, since the fish smelled alright prior to cooking i would suspect the marinade.
