a few months ago, a boxer attacked my dog, cody, and bit him on the nose. then, two weeks later, he was attacked by a great dane at the dog park. ever since these incidents, he's been really nervous and shy around other dogs. at the dog park, he wont play with other dogs, he just sniffs around the edges. today my friends and i all took a walk together with our dogs. the whole time, cody was whimpering, shying away from the others, and staying very close to me. i feel bad that hes not comfortable with other dogs. how can i help him become more social?

When a dog is attacked not only once, but twice, this can be very tramatic and cause the dog to be either shy or very aggressive

This sounds like a self-esteem problem, so you must approach it delicately. You want to challenge the dog physically and mentally with things like obstacle courses, busy environments, and any situation in which the dog can get feedback from other, more confident dogs.

Helping a dog build self-esteem is a very, very long process.
You have to build confidence slowly, and the way you build it is by helping the dog to repeatedly accomplish small goals. Practice obedience training, practice obstacle courses; they don’t have to be champions, but they have to go out and do it. With every success comes a little bit more confidence.

u should probably get professional help or try to find a book on dog behavior. These might be of some help. sorry about cody, and the best of luck.

Dog parks can sometimes be overwhelming. Personally I dislike them. Try walking you leased dog around dogs and praise her for appropriate behavior.
