Hi we just got a new puppy yesterday. She is 8 weeks old, and we also have a 16 week old puppy. The older puppy sleeps in our room in a puppy play pen and I was wondering if its good to put the new puppy in our room as well but in her crate. Because last night we had her in another room and she SCREAMED all night making my other puppy distraught and sleepless, along with us. If we move her into our room what other things can we do to make her more comfortable that REALLY work, because we did not have this problem at all with our first puppy. what can we do to avoid the screaming at night. We let her out in the night so she screams for other reasons besides having to potty.

Also, I go back to work tommorrow but will be back twice during the day to potty her and play.I was wondering am I just supposed to keep her in her crate even though she will scream most of the day? Will her screaming drive my other dog nuts? He has an entire room durin the day cuz he is fully potty trained

NEVER let a puppy scream alone. that is what CAUSES separation anxiety in some dogs..good lord. what horrible advise some ppl give out.

it's a baby, and like all babies needs contact w/other beings.
perhaps a night or two w/your other puppy would help. or if you don't want the new pup disturbing your older one, try a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel in the crate. it acts as a surrogate mother for the pup so she doesn't feel so alone. also like some other ppl suggested a ticking clock, it kinda reminds puppy of mother's heartbeat.
any stuffed animal that looks like mom would help too.
i have even combined the clock and water bottle w/a stuffed animal for one pup i was fostering that was still very young. i couldn't have her sleep w/me of course cause i didn't want to roll over on her in the night, so i put her in a crate w/ a stuffed animal that i had cut into and placed a ticking clock in and a warm water bottle into as well. she settled down and slept wonderfully after i did that.

but...you might have to deal w/a couple of more restless nights before your new pup is comfortable in her new environment...like i said, she's a baby...sometimes they are fussy.

okay, first of all, congratulations on your new puppy! And i think your puppy is just dependent. Cover the crate at night and keep it in another room it will soon learn that it can't be with you everywhere. When you're at work you can have a friend check in and let the puppy out of its crate and let it go to the bathroom. Now as for your other dog, it will tell the puppy who's boss and have it stop screaming if it bothers it so much. Hopefully the puppy will also follow the older dogs example in potty training. Good luck with puppy!

Your new puppy was lonely last night. It knows that you and the other puppy were s/where it wasn't. So yes bring the new puppy in your room.
As far as the crate question, I can't say for sure, never crate trained, but from what I have heard and seen from others, the dog will eventually get used to the crate being its "home" and will settle down.
I would put a hot water bottle and a ticking clock in the crate with the puppy, that may help to calm it down at night, also, try getting it a stuffed animal toy that can be hers and only hers. (that helped with my first puppy)
Also, try to get the two dogs used to each other fast. We got our first dog when he was 8wks. old and our second one about a week later. They are really close and help to entertain each other when we are at work or wherever.

Good Luck

hes screeming because hes 8 weeks old and in a new place awayfrom the mother and other sibblings. some dogs adjust right away and other may take up to 3 weeks lol dont worry the screaming will stop. as for the crate. yes it is a good idea to keep him in their when yor not at home as well as at night. Crate training is the best way to potty train. What you want is a crate that is just big enough for the dog. dogs DONOT want to potty wear they sleep. they can go up to 10 hours with out going. like i said get a crate just big enough for the dog and he will hold it untill you get home. FIEST thing you do when you get home take the dog out to potty. In the same spot every day. After about 4 to 5 times going in the same spot that is wear they will prefur to go. Eventually you can leave the dog in the house all day unattended and when you get home he will want out to go in "his spot" it takes a little time but it is a verry effective way to pottytrain. If you have anyother questions id love to help you out. chevrolet350sb@yahoo.com

Honestly..you just have to let her scream until she becomes used to it. It will take a few days, maybe a week but next thing you know she will love that crate, it will be her home.. the plays she goes to relax. Never done this before but maybe you could try putting the 2 pups in the pen together at night. It might help the little 1 adjust and have someone to snuggle up to like he would his mom. Just a thought though! During the day though def use the crate! good luck

I can't believe you got another puppy before your other one was grown... the older puppy needs your time and attention and training and now you are distracted with another puppy that also needs time, attention and training. Your 16 week old puppy is not fully potty trained. Why do you think it is that responsible breeders won't place a puppy in a home that already has a puppy?

I think that you should put your new puppy in your room with you, in its crate. It might just be screaming because it is alone. Don't leave the puppy in the crate because they like to run around. Also the screaming WILL drive you other dog nuts!!!
Hope this helps!!

2 puppies and you work full time??? This is going to drag out housetraining for a loooooooonnnnng time.
Let her scream.. You ignore it. She'll stop the screaming before you know it. Quit talking to her, or telling her she's okay. just a SHHHH and that's it.

When you are gone she probably won't scream. She'll know no one is there and likely won't even bother. Both puppies should be in crates when you are gone to work. Ultimately they should be housetrained before you are gone all day long but I guess it's too late for that one.
